#OTDIH in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed.
Each year, Americans celebrate #4thofJuly to mark #Independence Day.
Even though our celebrations this year may look different, they honor the same spirit of freedom.
#PEPFAR’s has 4 core priorities in the context of #coronavirus:
1) ensuring continuity of #HIV services
2) leveraging PEPFAR-supported health systems
3) reducing staff/HIV client exposure to COVID-19 in health care settings
4) being flexible to meet evolving needs.

To all #PEPFAR Teams: Thank you for your hard work and tireless response in the context of #COVID while providing continuity of care to our millions of clients living with and affected by #HIV!
Health care workers are critical for providing essential services to communities like prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV, TB and Malaria.
The ~280,000 health workers PEPFAR has trained continue to provide for others, often at great personal risk.
Watch this clip of PEPFAR’s own Amb. Deborah Birx, currently the @WhiteHouse #Coronavirus Response Coordinator, recognizing you!
#COVID19 #PEPFARSavesLives #PublicHealth
In the context of #coronavirus, PEPFAR is adapting #HIV service delivery models to ensure social distancing, reduce contact of well persons with health care settings, and limit or pause any service provision that cannot be conducted safely within appropriate guidelines.
The health of our clients and healthcare workers is our top priority as we find innovative solutions to sustaining HIV prevention, treatment, and care for the millions of people who we serve.
#PEPFARSavesLives #PublicHealth
#PEPFAR is ensuring our clients living with #HIV continue to receive lifesaving antiretroviral treatment, including by providing at least three months (and ideally six months) of medication and adapting service delivery models to reduce their potential exposure to #coronavirus.

Nelly's Story
Meet Nelly Tsindori, a mother in Kenya living with #HIV.
She used #PEPFAR-supported programs to receive lifesaving antiretroviral treatment and learned how to prevent mother-to-child transmission. Nelly’s daughter, Charity, is one of more than 2.6M babies of mothers living with #HIV who we've helped to be born HIV-free.
For more than 17 years, PEPFAR has been supporting programs, saving more than 18 million lives to and accelerating progress toward controlling the global HIV/AIDS epidemic in more than 50 countries.
Amb. Birx is honored to be an #AIDS2020 Plenary Speaker and #PEPFAR looks forward to joining thousands of scientists, policy makers, healthcare professional, people living with HIV and community leaders at the 23rd International AIDS Conference in July!
Birx will provide a detailed analysis on where we are globally, regionally, at the country and community level and what needs to change with less than 10 years remaining to reach the Sustainable Development Goal target of ending the #HIV epidemic as a public health threat by 2030 during her talk on July 8, 2020

Ending Aids together- Nontokozo
Nontokozo is a 23-year-old ambassador for the DREAMS partnership, which helps girls develop into Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe women.
In all regions implementing DREAMS across 10 African countries, new HIV diagnoses among adolescent girls and young women decreased in the past three years, nearly all seeing declines of 25% or more!
Nontokozo mentors adolescents in her South African village about HIV/AIDS awareness and protection. Watch to learn what inspired her to do this work.
Ending AIDS Together
For World AIDS Day, we are proud to debut a powerful documentary on the chronological progression of the U.S. global AIDS response, “Ending AIDS Together.” From the darkest days to breakthroughs in science and politics driven by activism and courage, the film captures some of the most powerful moments of despair and hope in the journey to end the epidemic.
Ambitious goals call for bold action. Ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 is one of the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (ow.ly/YBOse), and for good reason: AIDS is now the leading cause of death among adolescents (ages 10-19) in Africa and the second most common cause of death among adolescents globally.
PEPFAR is rising to the challenge thanks to the bold targets set by President Obama last September at the U.N. General Assembly (ow.ly/YBONp). By 2017, working jointly with partner countries; the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; and the private sector (#SDG17), PEPFAR will
• support 12.9 million people on life-saving anti-retroviral treatment – nearly doubling the number of people on treatment from 2013 to 2017 #SDG3
• provide 13 million male circumcisions for HIV prevention #SDG3
• reduce HIV incidence by 40 percent among adolescent girls and young women within the highest-burdened areas of 10 sub-Saharan African countries #SDG3 #SDG5
