Slovenian Embassy in Washington DC donates five AŽ hives to Ms. Ashely Thomas from Bridge 2 Sports for a project "Accessible beekeeping for wheelchair-bound veterans" in Durham, North Carolina. The aim of the project is to build on the Slovenian experience beekeeping infrastructure that will be user friendly for retired service members, who are using wheelchairs. AŽ hives offer much easier side access to the honeycomb compared to Langstroth hives, which open from the top. AŽ hives are also more sustainable as they have way longer shelf life. We are looking forward to the start of the project that will help veterans with their reintegration programs.

Empire State Building lights up for countries competing in the games

On the opening night of the Olympic Games in Tokyo on July 23, the iconic New York City’s skyscraper was illuminated with rotating flag colors of the participating nations taking part in this year's Olympics. The Slovenian flag colors too have been proudly illuminated.

Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, the Empire State Building officially opened in May 1931. Declared “America's Favorite Building” by the American Institute of Architects, as well as the world's most popular travel destination by Uber and the #1 New York City attraction by Lonely Planet, it welcomes more than 4 million annual visitors from around the world. It is also widely considered the World's Most Famous Building, soaring 443 meters or 1,454 feet from base to antenna. The journey to the world-famous 86th Floor Observatory, the only 360-degree, open-air observatory with vistas of New York and beyond, shows off to visitors everything, from the building's amazing history to its current place in pop-culture.

The transatlantic relationship is strong and he emphasized that there is a great deal of potential to grow even close in the future. On the multilateral front, Slovenia has also taken a strong stance and has been a close partner with the US on many topics from security, international humanitarian assistance and pandemics. He emphasized the prosperous partnership between the two countries, and the importance of Slovenia’s role, including taking the reins of the Council of the European Union on July 1 for the second time since becoming the member. He stressed that a huge responsibility will be placed on the shoulders of Slovenia with the goal to also deepen the transatlantic cooperation.
