A look back at a wonderful evening of jazz at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C.! 🎶

Jan Kus and his Slavo Rican Assembly brought their unique blend of jazz, with Slovenian and diverse musical influences, to the Museum’s Courtyard.

Ambassador Iztok Mirošič addressed the audience, highlighting the friendship between Slovenia and the United States through music and culture. He also noted the partnership with National Geographic, whose spirit of exploration, discovery and care for our planet reflects Slovenia’s own identity as a green country and a land of explorers and exceptional photographers.

The evening paid tribute to jazz, an American art form that crossed the Atlantic, bringing people and cultures together through the universal language of music. 🇸🇮🇺🇸🎷

Yesterday, Slovenian box-office hit Belo se pere na devetdeset / Whites Wash at Ninety had its New York premiere at the Chain NYC Film Festival.

The movie, seen by more than 100,000 Slovenian cinemagoers, was presented to the New York audience as part of the festival, which will showcase more than 170 independent films from around the world between 6 and 17 August.

Thank you to festival managing director Rick Hamilton for the invitation extended to the Embassy.

Discover Anton Banko’s story — a story that highlights the contributions of Slovenian innovators to scientific and technological progress in the United States and around the world.

After studying mechanical engineering in Ljubljana and beginning his career in Koper, Slovenia 🇸🇮, Anton Banko continued his professional journey in the United States 🇺🇸, where he made significant contributions to medical technology.

Working with ophthalmologist Charles Kelman, Banko developed innovative ultrasound technology and surgical instruments that transformed cataract surgery, making procedures less invasive, safer, and more precise.

His innovations helped shape modern cataract surgery and continue to benefit patients around the world.
