HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN PUBLIC DIPLOMACY? Check out the ACPD's recent expert panel on Data Driven Public Diplomacy for answers!
In 2014, the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy published Data-Driven Public Diplomacy: Progress Towards Measuring the Impact of Public Diplomacy and International Broadcasting Activities, a ground-breaking report that became a go-to resource for practitioners, policymakers, and scholars interested in the use of research and evaluation tools to assess the impact of U.S.G information outreach, education and cultural programming. Six years later, we asked a distinguished panel of experts to revisit that report, focusing on current and future trends in public diplomacy research and evaluation. Here's what they had to say.

NEW ADVISORY COMMISSION REPORT ON STAYING COMPETITIVE IN THE GLOBAL INFO SPACE!

As the US postures itself for renewed great power competition, it is ever more important for our military and diplomatic leaders to engage effectively in an increasingly complex, and often hostile, information environment. Our new report builds a body of expertise around the teaching of public diplomacy, information and influence activities across the interagency. Our national security and prosperity depend on it.

The U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy (ACPD) is a bipartisan panel created by Congress in 1948 to appraise all U.S. government efforts to understand, inform and influence foreign publics. The Commission makes recommendations to improve the Public Diplomacy (PD) functions vested in U.S. go...

Friends of the Commission: Writing to invite you to our next public hearing, scheduled for September 28 from 10:30-12:00p at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. In addition to rolling out the 2017 Comprehensive Annual Report on Public Diplomacy and International Broadcasting, which is a great resource for anyone interested in the nuts and bolts of PD, we’ll also be joined by Laura Rosenberger, director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy and co-lead on a bipartisan effort to counter Russian disinformation aiming to weaken Western democratic values and institutions. You may be more familiar with the project's Hamilton 68 dashboard, which tracks Russian influence operations on Twitter.

The United States Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy

Our Mission

Since 1948, the United States Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy (ACPD) has been charged with appraising U.S. Government activities intended to understand, inform and influence foreign publics and to increase the understanding of, and support for, these same activities. The ACPD conducts research and symposiums that provide honest assessments and informed discourse on public diplomacy efforts across government. It reports to the President, Secretary of State, and Congress. Currently, the office of the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs supports it.
