Black workers face two of the most lethal preexisting conditions for coronavirus—racism and economic inequality

Black workers are less likely to have paid sick days and less likely to be able to work from home than white workers - Fewer than one in five black workers in the pre-pandemic economy were able to work from home. This inability to keep their jobs and stay safe makes it even harder for black workers to maintain economic and health security during this difficult time. The coronavirus fiscal response should be as big as needed—but current forecasts indicate at least $2.1 trillion is needed through 2020: The expected hit to the economy would mean almost 14 million job losses by summer

The package to restore the nation’s economic health should spend at least $2.1 trillion through the end of 2020. This amount could increase even this year, and aid should continue past...

From 1920 to 1938, the NAACP hung a flag that read "A man was lynched yesterday" out of it's New York HQ office. A part of the anti-lynching campaign, the flag was created after the lynching of seventeen year old Jesse Williams in Waco, TX. The NAACP also circulated graphic photos of his lynching in The Crisis. The flag brought a lot of attention due to its chilling reminder of lynchings that happened across the United States.

#OnThisDay one of our country’s most important historical figures was born, Rosa Parks! Beyond igniting the Montgomery Bus Boycott, she headed the Youth Division of the Montgomery #NAACP branch for years and was a pioneer for social justice. She was heavily involved with saving the Scottsboro Boys, women's rights, and took part in South African anti-apartheid protests. She is the recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, and the NAACP’s 1979 Spingarn Medal #29DaysofBlackness #BlackHistoryMonth

Alright my beautiful people, we have made it through #Kwanzaa! Tonight we light the last green candle representing #Imani. Faith empowers us to see beyond the immediate. Let's discuss role of the Kwanzaa value faith in our family and community.

12/29/2019

It's day 3 of #Kwanzaa and we are going to light the candle representing #Ujima (its the green one on the right 💚). Let's discuss the critical role collective work and responsibility plays in developing strong, safe and productive families and communities.

12/28/2019

On the third day, we honor #Ujima, or Collective Work and Responsibility. We strive to build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems and solve them together.

12/28/2019

#Kwanzaa was created to reaffirm and restore our rootedness in African culture. It's a cultural rather than religious holiday, and can be celebrated regardless of a person’s faith tradition.

12/28/2019

With over 2000 languages spoken on the African continent, #Kwanzaa adopted one of the many unifying languages, Swahili, which is spoken by millions on the African continent. The name Kwanzaa comes from a Swahili phrase meaning "first fruits."

12/28/2019

Habari Gani? Tonight we light the second candle (the farthest red candle on the left) for #Kujichagulia. Reflect on questions like: Who am I? Am I really who I say I am? Am I all that I ought to be?
