The Air Force is considering planes like this propeller-driven fighter in its battle against the Islamic State

Understand why U.S. Air Force is considering the A29 Super Tucano, made by Brazilian company EMBRAER, to fight against ISIS.

The future of second-generation biomass

Energy is a field, which Brazil and the United States have a lot to do together. By designing reliable equipment, improving automation and benefiting from their energy capabilities, both countries could reduce manufacturing costs and accelerate the development of the biomass industry.

"Second-generation feedstock is abundant, but prices on the biomass cost curve vary. Bagasse, available mostly in Brazil, China, India, and Thailand, is one of the cheapest sources of biomass: as a by-product of sugarcane processing, it is already aggregated at production plants and often burned to produce electricity. But 2G can be an alternative to drive value. American corn leaves and stalks cost about twice as much as bagasse, in part because this “stover” (as it is called) must be collected. Investors should seek long-term agreements to ensure security of supply in areas where the cost of sourcing is lowest."
