We solve urgent challenges facing millions of people in the world’s poorest places. How? By identifying, scaling, and sustainably delivering proven and cost-effective solutions to poverty-related problems.
Our Deworm the World Initiative, a seven-time GiveWell top charity founded by two Nobel Laureates, works with governments to treat parasitic worm infections for over 260 million children annually at a cost of less than $0.50 per treatment. This school-based deworming program dramatically reduces school absenteeism and increases future earnings as children grow into adults. The impacts are so substantial they could pay for the program 100 times over!
Our Dispensers for Safe Water program provides free and reliable safe water access to nearly 4 million people in rural Africa. The program installs and maintains chlorine dispensers at communal water points and recruits local promoters to encourage dispenser use. The result is reduced rates of diarrhea - a leading cause of child mortality. Dispensers for Safe Water is recognized by ImpactMatters as the most cost-effective clean water intervention in the world - up to 1.5 times more cost-effective than comparable alternatives, primarily because it is able to sustain uniquely high adoption (or usage) rates among communities reached.
Meanwhile, our Accelerator is building a new generation of programs to help us double our impact by 2024, in line with our 5-year strategy. The Accelerator is supporting the Government of India’s efforts to improve and scale a iron and folic acid supplementation program designed to reduce anemia in children and adolescents. The Accelerator is also exploring innovative approaches for reducing global rates of maternal syphilis.
