It is with extreme sadness that we share the passing of Reserve Officer Brian Bregman, a member with more than 16 years of reserve police service with MPD, who was found deceased in his residence today. Outside of MPD, Brian owned his own private law practice, served as a State of Maryland Forensic Death Investigator, and volunteered with both the Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department and the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services. His death is currently being investigated as a homicide by the Laurel Police Department.

Congrats to the volunteer in our neighboring jurisdiction!

We love our volunteers! This month, we are honored to recognize the hard work of Auxiliary Detective Jim Davison. His dedication to our community and the Fairfax County Police Department is unparalleled. Since Jim began volunteering for our Department in 2008, he has given over 7,000 hours of his time. While 2020 was a challenging year, Jim logged over 525 hours of service and helped our Major Crimes Bureau return 82 fugitives to Fairfax County.

During his time as an Auxiliary Police Officer, Jim worked out of the McLean District Station. While helping our Major Crimes Bureau with extraditions, Jim continues to be a part of the McLean Auxiliary Police Officer team, taking care of his certifications, MIR requirements, administrative duties and team spirit. In his free time, Jim is an author, although it is difficult to imagine he has much free time with all the help he provides!

Auxiliary Detective Davison continues to work hard during these trying times. His help in the office and in the field is remarkable. We are grateful for his dedication to his Major Crimes Bureau assignment and his incredible work ethic. Join us in congratulating of Auxiliary Detective Jim Davison for being awarded Detective of the Month! (Pictured left to right: Lieutenant Mohammed Oluwa, Lieutenant Marisa Kuhar, Major Ed O’Carroll, APO Jim Davison, Det. Jim Berg, and Second Lieutenant Matt Lane)

Today, dozens of reserve members left work early, left their families and headed into a volunteer job they cherish and in a city they care greatly about.

They stepped up to cover over a hundred calls for service across the city including shootings and even arresting a dangerous individual for carjacking.

“What’s kinda compelling about being a reserve is it’s basically the definition of community policing... I take this uniform off and I go to work and I go home, and nobody knows that I do this.” #HeretoHelp #MPDReserveCorps #VolunteerPoliceOfficer

Sending condolences to our reserve colleagues out West.

The LASD is deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of LASD Reserve Forces Detail Deputy Ronnie Bollig. Deputy Bollig suffered a medical emergency on Wednesday morning, September 9, 2020. Ronnie is survived by his wife and his two sons.

Bollig graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Reserve Academy in 1983 and performed his duties with the highest professionalism at San Dimas Sheriff's Station. In 2000, he began his true passion for riding patrol motorcycles for the Sheriff’s Department and continued riding until his passing. Deputy Bollig served the people of the County of Los Angeles for 37 years.

Among his fine qualities, Deputy Bollig was a wonderful husband and father, a steadfast friend to so many, and a faithful and tenacious servant of this community. We mourn for Ronnie, his wife, as well as his sons, friends, and family.

His dedication and service to our department will not be forgotten.

It is with great sadness that we announce Officer Michael Ashley passed away this week. Officer Ashley was a Reserve Officer for many years before becoming a career officer and true leader in the department.

Officer Ashley served in the United States Marine Corps before joining the Metropolitan Police Department. He served in multiple prestigious units through the years. His family will remain in our thoughts for years to come.

Great work to all members, this award means a lot and we’re especially proud of the Reserve Officers who were recognized.

Earlier this year, the full-time members of the Special Liaison Branch (SLB) were recognized and honored to receive the Anti-Defamation League's (ADL) SHIELD Award. The volunteers of SLB, Reserve Officer Matthew Ashburn, Reserve Officer Derrick Dortch, and Civilian Auxiliary Sterling Spangler, were presented their awards by Chief Newsham, along with Assistant Chief Dickerson, Assistant Chief Green, Assistant Chief Contee, Executive Director Haiman, Executive Director O'Meara, and Director Czapary.
The SHIELD Award recognizes law enforcement for significant contributions towards protecting the American people from hate crimes, extremism, and domestic and international terrorism. SHIELD is an acronym for the core values of the profession: Service, Honor, Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, and Dedication. These SLB volunteers exemplify these values.

This event is started and run by a retired MPD Reserve. Sorry for the late notice, but being a weekday, we're coming up a bit shorter than usual for volunteers. We could use a few more. If you can help, inbox me. Thank you, in advance. ***************************************************************** Do you LOVE kids? Do you have a happy, upbeat personality? Can you be in Alexandria, VA this Thursday, May 16th to spend the afternoon/evening with us? Can you deal with a chaotic atmosphere for a few hours? If you answered yes to all of these questions, WE NEED YOU! :) For the NINTH year in a row, we are helping to stuff critters for the children who have lost a close relative in the line of duty, as part of National Police Week. We could use a few more volunteers. Inbox me.
