The Department of Military Science (ARMY) offers courses that develop individual and group skills. Our motto is simple: we develop leadership skills for a lifetime! These skills are enhanced through the study of individual leadership development, teamwork, supervision, management, and military principles. All courses stress practical application of military instruction and the critical role of the United States Army in a modern society and global community. The department offers students elective courses, or the opportunity to become part of two, three, or four year programs. The program develops student proficiency in planning, executing, and assessing complex operations, functioning as a member of a staff, and providing performance feedback to subordinates. Students explore the dynamics of leading in the complex situations of current military operations in the contemporary operating environment (COE). Students will examine differences in customs and courtesies, military law, principles of war, and rules of engagement in the face of international terrorism. Students also explore aspects of interacting with non-government organizations, civilians on the battlefield, and host nation support. The completion of these programs results in the students being awarded a Second Lieutenant Commission. Options include Active, Reserves, and Army National Guard assignments. The Department of Military Science does not offer a major. We now offer a military science minor. POSTING GUIDELINES:

Spending this past weekend in the field with @howardarmyrotc reminded me of my cadet days over a decade ago at @vsu_rotc 😩 ⁣

Choosing to accept a military scholarship and have my undergraduate degree paid for by the @usarmy is still one of the BEST decisions I made in my life. Those years in ROTC taught me life lessons I still use today! It also helped me graduate with my Bachelors degree DEBT FREE! ⁣

I trained at Fort A.P. Hill when I was with the Howard University R.O.T.C. - Bison Battalion about 20 years ago. I didn't realize until today that this military post is named after Lt. General Ambrose Powell Hill, a commander in the confederate army during the Civil War. It is quite ironic that an R.O.T.C. unit at an historically Black college would be trained at a place named after someone that was fighting to keep them enslaved. Why would the Army agree to name this post after someone that rebelled against the Union? How many other military posts are named in the 'honor' confederate rebels, whose mission was to maintain the institution of slavery?
Congrats Bison and Army New Leaders Keep your BEARING! 😏

Can you beat the SMA? Don't miss this opportunity to check your battle skills. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fast-Moving “Fire and Maneuver” Battle Challenge at AUSA Washington, DC -- The Military Battle Challenge is the newest competition created by On Target Challenge, producers of the internationally renowned Firefighter Combat Challenge. Incorporating a cutting edge M4 laser rifle, the Battle Challenge requires a participant to perform nine tasks under pressure of time. Competitors’ race against each other and the clock for the bragging rights to be the "Best of the Best" in an adrenaline filled side-by-side battlefield simulation competition. “This is a tough obstacle course that employs combat-related tasks that service members negotiate under the pressure of time,” said Paul O. Davis, Ph.D., Battle Challenge creator. “We have run this program at military bases all over the United States and in addition to being relevant to training, it is a ton of fun!” The 15th Sergeant Major of the Army, Daniel A. Dailey, will run the prestigious Military Battle Challenge to kick off the 2017 Association of the United States Army (AUSA), Annual Meeting and Exposition. Sergeant Major of the Army Dailey will take his contingent of Soldiers to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the nation’s capital to run the “fire and maneuver” course for his physical training routine at 6:30 a.m. on Mon., Oct. 9, 2017. Each of the Armed Forces conducts physical fitness programs and tests to get service members in condition for combat. The Military Battle Challenge combines a fitness program that simulates a highly relevant series of nine battle-field-like skills required to be successful under physically challenging circumstances. Dubbed “Competition with a Purpose,” the Battle Challenge incorporates the cargo net climb, a knotted rope descent, wall surmount, battle bars, low crawl, Jerry-Can shuffle, marksmanship tasks and a service member-down rescue to create this para-military relevant obstacle course. Enjoy the video at: https://vimeo.com/207679376 The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) is sponsoring this event for their convention attendees. Interested competitors can visit the registration website and sign up to run the event between Oct. 9 2017 and Oct. 11, 2017 in Hall C, booth 4000 of the convention center. The Military Battle Challenge course is open on Mon. and Tues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday attendees can run the course from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is free and may be completed at www.battlechallenge.org. Changing stations will be provided at the convention center and work out attire is recommended. The point of contact for the Military Battle Challenge is Carl S.
