The Air Force Song 75th Anniversary Tattoo
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, U.S. AIR FORCE! | On September 18, 1947, The United States Air Force officially became its own branch of the United States military. Originally part of the Army, the Air Force as we know it today evolved from The Aeronautical Section, Signal Corps in 1909, Aviation Section Signal Corps in 1914, United States Army Air Service in 1918, United States Army Air Corps in 1926, and the United States Army Air Forces in 1941. Since then, the Air Force has been proud to innovate, accelerate, and thrive, delivering unparalleled air power anywhere in the world.
As our birthday tribute, we hope you enjoy this clip of the Air Force Song from the Air Force's 75th Birthday Tattoo last week at Audi Field!
Happy 75th birthday to the United States Air Force! Here's to many more years where we Aim High, Fly-Fight-Win!

Memorial Day
MEMORIAL DAY | Today we reflect on America's Airmen, Soldiers, Marines, Coastguardsmen, and Sailors who have laid down their lives for this nation. Through the sounding of Taps, members of The United States Air Force Band solemnly render honor to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
A long-held musical tradition at military funerals, the music of Taps originated from a Civil War bugle call entitled, “Extinguish Lights," and is sometimes referred to as "Day is Done." A plaintive call, the sounding of Taps signals the end of the fallen serviceman’s duty and is the final tribute from a grateful nation.
To those who have given the last full measure of devotion, we honor your service, pay tribute to your lives, and thank you for your selfless sacrifice.
We'd like to thank Mr. Matthew Priest, Director of Culpeper National Cemetery, all of the staff at Culpeper National Cemetery, as well as Ms. Richelle Taylor, Public Affairs Specialist with the Department of Veteran Affair’s National Cemetery Administration, for their help making this tribute possible.

Memorial Day - "Goin' Home" by Antonín Dvořák
ON BEHALF OF A GRATEFUL NATION | Since its inception, the United States Air Force has championed the value of service before self, charging Airmen to place professional duty above personal desires. While adherence to this call is expected of Airmen every day, on Memorial Day we are given the opportunity to commemorate the loss of those who have embodied this core value by giving their lives for their country.
“Each Memorial Day, we honor the sacrifices, courage, and valor of those service members who have given the last full measure of devotion in service to our great nation. On this most solemn of days, we turn our hearts to our fallen heroes and honor their bravery. As we march onward, with aspirations of greatness, let us never forget on whose shoulders we stand...These fallen patriots who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.” - General Charles Q. Brown, Jr., Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
Every day, these men and women, true American patriots, continue to inspire future generations to raise their right hand and serve their country. Today, we honor these fallen warriors with the remembrance anthem, “Goin’ Home”. To those who have given the last full measure of devotion in service to their country, we thank you.

Welcome TSgt. Andy Mowatt!
NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT| Please give a warm welcome to Technical Sgt. Andy Mowatt! Hailing from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Sgt. Mowatt is the newest member of Max Impact. A self-proclaimed musical “jack of all trades,” Mowatt has over 10 years of experience as a professional guitarist, arranger, and teacher. Additionally, he has written, arranged, produced, or collaborated on eight studio albums and toured extensively as a band leader and band member. His most recent album, Andy Mowatt Frequency Movement: Symphonic Funk Box, was released in October 2020. We asked Sgt. Mowatt a few questions to get to know him better!
Q: What drew you to pursue a career as a guitarist in the United States Air Force Band?
A: A sense of purpose and challenge drove me to pursue a career with The United States Air Force Band and Max Impact. The musicianship and hard work here is inspiring.
Q: What opportunities are you most looking forward to as a guitarist for Max Impact?
A: Max Impact is fortunate enough to deploy this summer and perform for troops and international audiences in the Middle East. Traveling, learning, and connecting with new cultures – personally and musically – is exciting.
Q: Are you looking forward to finding new ways to apply your skills as a recording artist, composer, arranger, band leader, and band member to the musical environment of Max Impact?
A: Of course! I feel like my experiences leading up to Max Impact were all in preparation for the challenges ahead here with the The United States Air Force Band. The resources, talent, and possibilities are endless here in D.C. and I’m ready to grow with the Air Force mission.
Q: Do you have any non-musical hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time?
A: The few moments I find away from music each day are based around my family – wife Missy and dog Lola. Lots of hikes, parks, cooking, traveling, eating and planning for the future. I also try to stay active at the gym and the ice rink playing hockey.

One Team: Thank you Master Sgt. (ret.) Sean Christian
ONE TEAM | When members of The U.S. Air Force Band perform at Daytona International Speedway or even the NFL Super Bowl they represent the excellence of our 680,000 Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve Airmen. Instrumental to that placement is Master Sgt. Sean Christian, of U.S. Air Force and Space Force Recruiting, who worked at Headquarters Air Force: Strategic Marketing Division, and as of yesterday retired after 21 years of distinguished service. The seamless partnership Sgt. Christian facilitated between these Air Force assets has helped The United States Air Force attract new recruits to continue leading the way.
“Without the relationship with The Air Force Band, and not being able to use the capabilities that y’all bring to the table, it would be very difficult to get our message across,” remarks Christian. On behalf of our unit we congratulate Master Sgt. Christian on his 21 years of service and dedication.
Enjoy the next chapter of your life and know that you are now considered an honorary Bandsman!
