Weight debate: When to use body weight, machines, and free weights

Have you ever thought about the difference between a body weight workout, a weight machine workout and a free weight workout? How do you know which would be best for you? Can you combine them? This article covers all the basic questions you may have and offers a great starting guide into all three options.

https://www.inquirer.com/health/wellness/exercise-free-weight-bodyweight-machines-20191105.html

Bodyweight exercises are the foundation upon which all strength training movements are built. Before you can incorporate free weights or practice advanced exercises, you must start by working with your own bodyweight.

Good afternoon PAC members and guests. Here is some information on CrossFit Training to keep the fitness momentum going!

For those that used to attend the Monday through Thursday CrossFit Pentagon classes, or those that want to begin a CrossFit journey, please email [email protected] for April's exercise programming (Workouts of the Day or "WODs"). If you have weights, great, use them and adjust what’s written to work within the equipment you’ve got. If you’ve got a pull up bar, great, use it to your advantage! If you don’t have those things, get creative, adapt, improvise, and overcome. One of our coaches will be largely working out outside, as they live in a 2nd floor apartment and don’t want to bother neighbors too much!

- Please follow the gym on Instagram: @crossfitpentagon and please DM us how you’re doing, pictures of your work out, the aftermath of any of these if you’re willing to share. We’ll do our best to get them posted to the story.
Also, our coaches will demo as much as possible and try to put in points of performance in the story as well, so you have things to think about (the things we’d remind you of, as if I we were there coaching) while "getting movement done!"

Each of you is essential to the CFP community, please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything that CrossFit Pentagon coaches can do to support you and your family. Please stay safe, wash your hands, take care of yourselves and your families and we can’t wait to see you back on the blue mats to work out together when the PAC re-opens. Whatever you do, you’re doing great! Stay positive, keep moving, even if it’s not a 100% effort, all movement done well is good movement, even if it’s just a walk around the block.

* A few great things about CrossFit!
- It can be done anywhere and is infinitely scalable to a varying level of participants, from advanced gym-goers to the novice!
It can appear to be something of an enigma, as the daily regimen or workout prescription changes from day to day, while those "initiated" adopt their own language and set of behaviors that may seem strange at first glance.
- Despite this, CrossFit has always been simple in both philosophical approach and definition. CrossFit is composed of three definitive elements:
constantly varied functional movements, executed at a high intensity. Any fitness program can ultimately be characterized by the movements it chooses to prioritize. CrossFit chooses to prioritize functional movements. The problem with the term “functional” is that it has been co-opted so frequently that it no longer holds significant meaning.
- There are many characteristics of functional movements that CrossFit athletes and trainers can use to discern functional from non-functional movements. For example, we say functional movements are “natural,” meaning they are not movement patterns used only at the gym. Rather, these movements are found everywhere in human behavior and arise spontaneously as a response to life. For example, getting up out of a chair requires an air squat; picking up groceries from the floor, a deadlift; getting a five-gallon water jug onto a table, a clean; placing items on a high shelf, a shoulder press.

All the best,
Your CrossFit Pentagon Coaching Team

They keep screaming out call of duty for 18months while they pay mentally challenged people to perform threatening conduct around me and paying people to do irratic and stupid things around me like life is a game.. When i go to my window the same people mysteriously are standing at the spot where im looking out the window, people hiding like they aren't on the elevators but when i walk on they jump out, people riding pass me in cars making threatening gestures as if they're going to shoot me out of their car while screaming out your gun license is revoked; while they're using social security medical devices and brain wave frequency devices manipulating my thoughts, adrenaline, heart rate, blood pressure, and other neurological components

Good afternoon. Any ETA on reopening? Thank you!
Can you tell me how much family pool access is for the PAC?
Was a member of the Center in the 70's and 90's (2 Pentagon tours) and played a lot of basketball there. Would like to purchase a logo shirt or sweatshirt. Is that possible? Still playing basketball in Senior Olympics at 76. Tom
Do they offer adult swimming lessons?
If you see Ms. Val today, please wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Sending wishes from the beach. LOVE YOU LADY!!!!!!!
Is it true that the PAC will soon be declared as off-limits to retirees, including those who have been grandfathered in? I sure hope not. Except for a few out-of-town assignments, I've been a member of the POAC/PAC since 1984. And, I am most assuredly not a security risk!
As I listen to classic rock blast at the Pentagon gym, I wonder, what can the DoD change culturally to attract the BEST and BRIGHTEST minds of the 21st Century? Innovative, and future looking minds. Facilities are Great, but the music reminds me of my dad who is 65 years old. SMH!
Is the PAC open on Monday the 21st?
