UPDATE AFTER 48 HOURS: No additional ill effects experienced at all!! Get your vaccine shot! Mask up! Stay well!

UPDATE AFTER 24 HOURS: Slight soreness in shoulder. May have had a mild temperature last night (got cold-just pulled the covers a little higher). Took a couple Tylenol this morning. Drinking water. No other ill effects!

This is a personal COVID vaccine story so take it as such. I'm a Vietnam veteran, age 72, with underlying conditions due to Agent Orange. On January 16-18, Lexington VA offered a walk-in vaccine clinic for veterans 65 or older. They use the Pfizer vaccine. I took advantage of this opportunity and on January 17th got my 1st shot! Yes, it was a little confusing, some long lines, but the staff and volunteers at the Cooper Drive facility were very patience and helpful. I was in and out in 2 hours. If you were not registered with Lexington VAMC, it took a little longer. Other than a slightly sore arm for about 12 hours, there were NO bad side effects. VA vaccinated approximately 4000 veterans during the three-day clinic. They set me up with an 10:00 AM appointment 3 weeks later. TODAY, that time was up. I arrived at 9:55, received my 2nd shot at 10:15, waited my required 15 minutes, and exited the garage at 10:40. Talk about a super efficient process! It was exceptional! Staff told me they would process nearly 1400 veterans today and are nearing a total of 10,000 being vaccinated at the Lexington VA! I'm nearing 12 hours since receiving the second shot with NO ill effects. The arm is not even sore. I realize that many of my fellow veterans have concerns about taking the vaccine, and for some, the side effects of the second shot may be more severe. I'll update this post in the 24-48 hour time frame and let you know what side effects I encounter. Given my experience, I urge you to TAKE THE VACCINE if you find an opportunity. Doesn't matter which one. Doesn't matter if it's at your local health department, drug store, Walmart, or if you're fortunate like me, at VA. Just follow the protocol established. The odds are greatly in your favor and the result is not only protection from being seriously impacted by the virus, but you come away with a great peace of mind! It also eliminates some of the worries of others who love you. Stay well veterans! Mask up! LARRY
