Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced Highlights Puerto Rico’s Biomedical Production to White House Officials and Stakeholders

“It is worth noting that discuss preparedness and readiness for the 2020 hurricane season, ongoing federal projects, and the revitalization of the island. However, this trip will focus on the opportunity for Puerto Rico to re-insert itself within the United States’ national security system by means of strengthening the pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing market. As Puerto Rico continues to recover, it is incumbent upon me to aid in continuing the development of our economy and take advantage of our thriving industries,” said Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced.

“Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced and Congresswoman Jenniffer González- Colón are working closely with the Trump Administration to bring critical jobs back to Puerto Rico. I look forward to visiting key facilities with the federal family and finding new ways to stimulate and strengthen Puerto Rico’s industrial sector. We are meeting with textile companies, the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and visiting key environmental sites.” said Rear Admiral Peter J. Brown.

“The Trump Administration is working hard with the government of Puerto Rico to ensure that Puerto Rico’s economy has the necessary infrastructure for success: reliable baseload power, clean water, clean air, access to transportation facilities, and a strong workforce,” said the Special Advisor of the White House and Department of Energy, Juan Caro.

"I thank the Administration and Rear Admiral Brown for his commitment to the people of Puerto Rico. This visit is a follow up from previous trips highlighting the commitment of the federal government to advancing our work, in collaboration with local officials and stakeholders, towards economic development and reconstruction,” said Rep. González- Colón.

“As a leader in the pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing market, now more than ever, during these tiring times, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential that federal officials experience firsthand the potential Puerto Rico has to offer. Puerto Rico has come so far in the past year, and we are proud of our people’s spirit to overcome challenges and particularly this industry’s resiliency. We will continue collaborating with the White House, this Administration, and stakeholders as we continue exploring opportunities for the island’s development”. concluded Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced.

“It is essential that our island is well-positioned to face and work with the damages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic as we move forward with our recovery. We must explore options to grow, develop, and inject our island’s economy with every opportunity and resource available.” said Jennifer M. Storipan, Esq.

Un juez federal declara inconstitucional negar a residentes de Puerto Rico otros beneficios que se otorgan en los estados

🚨Important 🚨

A federal judge in San Juan ruled that it is unconstitutional - for violating equal law protection – to deny benefits from three federal programs that exist in states to residents of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico deserves to be treated equally.

PRFAA and Gov. Wanda Vázquez Garced have made these programs a priority and have fought for equal access for PR and will continue to do so in Washington, D.C.

These programs are: Medicare's Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) programs, and Medicare Part D low-income subsidies, which covers prescription drugs.

Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced Delivers to the U.S. Congress the Fourth Status Report of the Economic and Disaster Recovery Plan in the Aftermath of the 2017 Hurricanes

“When I took my oath as Governor of Puerto Rico, I swore to stand with our people and do everything in my power to expedite the recovery efforts from the 2017 Hurricanes Irma and María,” said Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced. “My priority was that every person who was affected and harmed by these hurricanes would have their unmet needs met. Despite the challenges we have confronted during this past year, we have emerged stronger and made significant strides towards our island’s recovery. Today, I can proudly say that we are building a better, stronger, and more resilient Puerto Rico”.

For his part, the Executive Director of COR3, Ottmar Chávez Piñero, maintained that "the acceleration of projects, obligations, disbursements and the reduction of administrative costs, among other achievements, allows this generation to witness how Puerto Rico will be able to stand up, while allowing Puerto Ricans to be part of its reconstruction. "

The Gov. Wanda Vázquez Garced added, “It is worth noting that all of these important milestones were accomplished despite the ongoing earthquakes that continue to impact our island on a daily basis and the social distancing requirements and intermittent island-wide lockdowns required to protect the health of our population amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While it has not been easy and the circumstances have been challenging, I have never been prouder of our people, their spirit, and our ability to come together and face these challenges headstrong and emerge stronger than ever.”

“During this past year, we have achieved so much despite the challenging circumstances we have faced. As Puerto Rico continued to recover from the 2017 hurricanes Irma and María, earlier this year, the island was impacted by thousands of earthquakes that today continue to affect our island. We are also battling with the biggest pandemic of our century, the COVID-19 virus,” said the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, Jennifer M. Storipan, Esq. “With so many competing priorities, it is easy to forget that we are still in a recovery phase. However, these milestones have been accomplished because the Governor has restored the island’s credibility in Washington D.C., and we have an excellent working relationship with the federal agencies. As we continue with our recovery efforts, I know that our work, coupled with our people’s resiliency, will help us build a better Puerto Rico”.

PRFAA and Autoridad de los Puertos de Puerto Rico Discuss Passenger Control Measures with House T&I Committee Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

“We are very concerned with this situation and the spike in COVID-19 cases we are seeing, and we expressed those concerns to the Subcommittee on Aviation and FAA,” said the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, Jennifer M. Storipan, Esq. “We have a large diaspora in the state of Florida, and which I am very familiar with in in light of the services PRFAA provides in our Regional office, but we need to temporarily control the passengers that come to our island from these hot spots in order to protect our people living on the island”.

“In the past few weeks, we have seen an increase in the influx of passengers from these hot spots traveling to our island and Puerto Rico is experiencing a spike COVID-19 cases. We want to continue establishing the dialogue with the federal government to find creative actions according our legal framework.” said Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, Joel A. Pizá-Batiz. “We are confident that actions will be taken by our federal counterparts to better protect the people of Puerto Rico”.

President Trump Signs Emergency Declaration for Direct Federal Assistance for Puerto Rico

“As a result of the imminent threat posed by this tropical disturbance amid the COVID-19 pandemic, I made the hard choice of declaring a state of emergency for the island,” said Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced. “I have requested personnel, equipment, and supplies. These measures are to provide an effective, robust response in the event of this storm. I also requested food, generators, water, and tarps. It is worth noting that Puerto Rico is managing three emergencies at the time: the island continues to experience seismic events; we have the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; and now this tropical disturbance”.

The Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced expressed her gratitude to President Trump, Rear Admiral Brown, and FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor for the prompt response to the emergency declaration and stated that “As the Governor of Puerto Rico, I am grateful for the excellent relationship and partnership we have with the White House and federal officials. Today, more than ever, we see the federal government’s confidence in our work, and I know that together we will save lives during this heightened time of concern for our island”.

“Puerto Rico is currently managing three emergencies at the same time. Our island continues to be impacted by earthquakes, we are seeing a spike in cases of COVID-19, and now we are facing a new threat because of this tropical storm,” said Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, Jennifer M. Storipan, Esq. “Our priority is to protect lives; we will work together with the White House and local municipalities to ensure the safety of our people. Our relationship with the federal government has never been better. We expect swift action and open channels of communications as we move forward with our strategic plan during this emergency and our recovery efforts in the aftermath of this storm”.
