His style blends expressive realism with a painterly, textured approach, combining bold color and atmosphere with the narrative sensibility of contemporary comics.

๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ โ€œMy participation in the PORTRAITS project is mainly due to the trust that Josรฉ Villarrubia and the Spain Arts & Culture team placed in me. For me, it has been a true privilege, as well as an opportunityโ€”albeit one that comes with an enormous sense of responsibility. When I saw that I had been chosen to pay tribute to the Catalan cardiologist Valentรญ Fuster, I inevitably had to put my heart into it. What else could I do?โ€

๐Ÿ‘ค The Jerez-born Fran Mariscal made his debut as a writer-artist with Moribundo, a graphic novel about mental health and toxicity within the vampire genre. He recently illustrated Batman in Detective Comics Annual #1 (2026), and now returns with this short story about Valentรญ Fuster and a rather peculiar patient.
Portraits: 12 Lives, 12 Journeys pays tribute to twelve Spanish figures whose lives and careers were shaped by their connection to the United States, using comics and graphic storytelling to reflect the enduring cultural ties between the two countries.

๐ŸŽจ Not Your Regular Wall: 250 Years Celebrating Together comes to Tampa!

From August 24 to September 4, 2026, Centro Asturiano de Tampa will present four original illustrations by Spanish artist Teresa Novoa, highlighting Spainโ€™s often-overlooked contributions to U.S. independence.

Through a contemporary visual language, the exhibition revisits shared historical connectionsโ€”from George Washington and the Treaty of San Lorenzo to Spanish figures Diego de Gardoqui and Bernardo de Gรกlvez.

Originally shown at the Spanish Cultural Center in Washington, DC, the exhibition travels to Tampa for the Centro Asturianoโ€™s Dรญa de Asturias celebration and is part of The USA Turns 250 program.

Her illustration style is figurative and comic-inspired, with clean, expressive lines, simplified and slightly stylized features, and a strong graphic quality.

๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ โ€œThanks to my participation in this project, I have been able to learn more about the life and legacy of Sara Montiel. Saraโ€™s fame came to me relatively late, as her kind of music was not something that I, or people of my generation, typically listened to. However, through the research I carried out in order to draw her story, I was able to discover what an extraordinary woman she was and how much she had to fight, both for herself and for her career. I can only feel admiration for her.โ€

๐Ÿ‘ค Sara Soler is an Aragonese comic artist and illustrator, based in Barcelona. Her career has developed both in the national and international markets, and her work can be found at publishers such as DC, Dark Horse, Oni Press, Astiberri, and others. Her most notable work is Us, which has been translated into five languages and has received numerous awards.

โž• At the Kennedy Center, Olatz Larunbe joined Italian artist Clarissa Costagliola in Galera โ€” a work that weaves movement and audiovisual storytelling to explore memory, loss, and the urgency of living in the present.

๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒŸ At the Spanish Cultural Center, Olatz presented Etena Dena, a contemporary dance piece she directed and choreographed with six performers from Company | E. His illustration style combines a raw, expressive comic-book aesthetic with a strong sense of cinematic storytelling.

๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ โ€œMy story, centered on the figure of Antonio Banderas, has allowed me to immerse myself in the astonishing career of this popular actor, which was largely unknown to me.
