Youth committed to the DC Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) will have the opportunity to earn up to $250 working with the DC Board of Elections (DCBOE) at polling sites on Election Day.

Additionally, Achievement Center staff are helping DYRS youth with absentee ballots. If a young person that you're working with needs assistance with absentee ballots, please have that youth work with their Care Coordinator or contact the Achievement Center staff #DYRSDC

Reopening New Jersey: School named after civil rights icon holds grand opening ceremony

"We're just so humbled that she's being recognized for all her years of work. It means so much that she is here to smell her roses right," said #DYRSDC Director Clinton Lacey of a school being named after his #civilrights icon mother Theodora Smiley Lacey. "She's here to experience that." 👏🏾

The 88-year-old helped organize the Montgomery bus boycott, fought for voting rights and fair housing, and helped lead the effort to integrate schools in New Jersey.

The Achievement Centers will host an event on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 to kick off National Voter Registration Day. On that day, staff will engage youth who are age 18 and older in the community to come in and get registered to vote. If youth are already registered, we will encourage them to bring a friend to get registered, all while observing proper social distancing protocols.
