#WhatLoveLooksLike❤️ Kashava Logan, a #MentalHealth Specialist at the New Beginnings Youth Development Center (NBYDC), encourages youth to incorporate creativity into their petitioning process.

To encourage their reflection and sense of autonomy, she has residents select a meaningful slogan or quote and then creates t-shirts 👕 for the young people with their quotes.

Ms. Logan took the initiative to implement this project on her own with a few youth who greatly appreciated this activity.

The t-shirts are now in great demand, so Ms. Logan has been assisting the Mental Health team across the compound!

Happy Inauguration Day from #DYRSDC!

Happy Inauguration Day!

Here’s to the 68 #DYRSDC youth in the community and the facilities who the Achievement Center and Secure Programs staff registered to vote in September 2020 to vote in the election that brought us to this day.

Thank you to our volunteers from that day and from the DC Board of Elections and Ethics for helping to make this happen.

And thank you to our young voters for making your voice heard. It’s your day to celebrate just as much as it is all of the voters across the nation. 🇺🇸

Happy Holidays❣️ #DYRSDC youth, families, and youth previously connected with us participated in 📸 Capture the Moment, an onsite holiday photo event hosted by the Achievement Center.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A professional photographer came into our centers for the safe family activity. All photos were appointment-based to limit the number of people in the center at a time and for everyone's safety.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Youth were invited to include their siblings, families, friends, Credible Messengers, favorite staff member, or anyone else they wanted to include in their photo. They received their photos onsite as well as Christmas 🎄 cards, and a gift bag for the holiday season to help them get into the holiday spirit!

🚴🏿‍♂️🚴🏿‍♂️🚴🏿‍♂️ #tbt to 9/12 when #DYRSDC youth joined Live Your Freedom Incorporated for their Biking and Soul Tour: Connecting with Your History. The organization advocates for holistic #wellness and focuses on SoulFlexology™, the study of self that emphasizes strengthening oneself spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally. The #Biking and Soul Tour provided a safe space for participants to learn about history and culture, physically push themselves, mentally challenge themselves, spiritually grow 🌱 by centering themselves through meditation, and emotionally mature by practicing patience and team tour unity.

Connecting to the environment you live and grow in is vital in establishing peace in your journey of exploring the world around you. Exposing participants to parts of the city they live in but have not previously been exposed to reminds them that the world is at their fingertips, they just have to continue to explore and develop. Thank you 🙏🏾 Live Your Freedom for the opportunity to share this experience with DYRS youth.
