Devestating news via :

The 8th Circuit delivered a severe blow to the Voting Rights Act in seven states.

In a landmark decision, the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals severely weakened Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) in certain states by ruling that there is no private right of action under Section 2. This means that only the U.S. Department of Justice — not individuals and organizations — can sue under Section 2 in the seven states covered by the 8th Circuit.

Private groups and voters bring the vast majority of Section 2 lawsuits. As the dissent cites from experts, "Over the past forty years, there have been at least 182 successful Section 2 cases; of those 182 cases, only 15 were brought solely by the Attorney General.”

If elected, Fabian Nelson will be Mississippi’s first out LGBTQ+ state lawmaker! 🏳️‍🌈

Fabian comes from a family of healthcare professionals that have broken down barriers for the Black community. His grandmother was the first Black nurse to integrate a hospital in Yazoo City, Mississippi and his father was one of the first Black graduates from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. Instilled with a hard work ethic by his parents, Fabian put himself through college and graduated from Jackson State University. After graduating from Jackson State, Fabian matriculated to American Public University, where he received his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. As a foster parent, a small business leader and a public health advocate, Fabian is the best candidate to be elected into Mississippi’s state house and break even more barriers!
