NOIA Pushes for Growth and Stability in the US Energy Markets

"As long as we are utilizing oil and gas - which does lift society and gives us the ability to have everything around us - let's make sure we are getting it homegrown, where we have a small environmental footprint and where the emissions are lower than anywhere else. We have a great story and that is what we taking to the Biden administration."

Can the US's offshore oil and gas hub pivot to wind energy? - Energy Monitor

"Over many decades, the oil and gas industry on the Gulf Coast has developed know-how and resources that can be repurposed for offshore energy writ large, including utility-scale wind power projects. A NOIA-commissioned study found that the region’s oil and gas industry supported 345,000 jobs.

“'Offshore oil and gas projects are marine construction projects, and offshore wind projects are marine construction projects,' says NOIA’s Erik Milito. 'It has been nothing but positive from the oil and gas supply chain in terms of viewing this as a good opportunity.'"

Kennedy, Cassidy propose plan to increase Gulf of Mexico lease sales

"In May, the National Ocean Industries Association released a report that said restricting future lease permits could cause a 25% drop in oil and gas related jobs in Louisiana from 2020 to 2040. The state could also lose about $4 billion in GDP contributions in 2040, and government revenues from oil and gas could drop about 26% across the Gulf states.

"If no new drilling permits are issued after 2022, the projections for oil and gas and related jobs for 2020-2040 is 50% lower than the projections if there were no changes to policy — around 52,000 jobs on average."

The Conservation Funding Protection Act ensures that future generations and underserved communities throughout the country will continue to have access to parks and outdoor recreational programs. By granting legislative protection to continued Gulf of Mexico oil and gas production we are protecting hundreds of thousands of jobs and environmental funding throughout every U.S. state.

NOIA is proud to support this critical legislation from Senator John Kennedy, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, Senator John Cornyn, Senator Ted Cruz and Senator Roger Wicker.

The bill would require at least two area-wide lease sales each year on available land in the western and central portions of the Gulf of Mexico

National Ocean Industries Association applauds Senator John Kennedy for introducing and U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, Senator John Cornyn, Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and Senator Roger Wicker for cosponsoring the Conservation Funding Protection Act.

Revenues from Gulf of Mexico oil and gas production fund virtually the entire Land & Water Conservation Fund as well as the new National Parks and Public Lands Legacy Restoration Fund established by the Great American Outdoor Act.

Legislative protection of continued American offshore oil and gas production is critical in ensuring that funding remains in place for conservation programs and for maintenance and improvements at our national parks.

This legislation effectively protects hundreds of thousands of jobs and environmental funding throughout every U.S. state. U.S. offshore energy provides source of energy with a small environmental footprint, produced with a low carbon intensity and under the highest level of regulations and standards.

Daily on Energy: Strong offshore oil lease sale ahead of Biden ban

"The offshore energy industry is expecting a mixed bag of policies from the Biden administration. Biden should reverse his proposal to ban new offshore oil and gas drilling in federal waters, which would cost nearly 200,000 jobs and strip the U.S. government of billions in dollars of revenue, the National Oceans Industries Association warned in a list of policy priorities yesterday.

But the Biden administration has an opportunity to boost the U.S’ nascent offshore wind industry as part of its clean energy goals by enacting leasing and permitting reforms, and reversing Trump’s recent withdrawal of certain areas of the Atlantic Coast from energy development."

America's offshore energy resources are a wellspring of economic growth, energy security and environmental stewardship. President-elect Joe Biden should recognize the irreplaceable benefits our industry provides and pursue policies that strengthen this incredible American asset.

The benefits that the men and women of the offshore energy industry provide our nation are non-partisan.

Future of offshore drilling in the Gulf hangs on Biden's pledge

"Erik Milito, a longtime energy lobbyist and president of the National Offshore Industries Association, said he has warned the incoming administration that more than 300,000 jobs are at stake. At a time when millions of Americans remain out of work because of the coronavirus pandemic, Milito said he remained hopeful that Biden wouldn’t carry through on his pledge to halt leasing."

National Ocean Industries Association President Erik Milito spoke to the Houston Chronicle on the future of Gulf of Mexico energy development - a future that is inextricably linked to the well-being of the U.S.

EIA: Global oil consumption reached 95.3 million b/d in October

This is incredible: according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration , global oil consumption reached 95.3 million b/d in October.

By comparison, in 2019 the world consumed an average of 100.1 million b/d of #oil. The world is adjusting to #Covid_19 and energy demand is recovering. This is all the more reason to ensure the US keep the #GulfOfMexico - and its close to 2 million b/d of oil production - open.

More than 345,000 people, across every US state, are part of the Gulf of Mexico oil and gas industry. Last year they were responsible for GDP impact of $28.6 billion and they generated more than $5.4 billion government revenues - funds that did not directly burden taxpayers.

Importantly, Gulf of Mexico oil and gas production is produced with a small environmental footprint. It has a carbon intensity 50% of that of some other producing regions, and deepwater production has the lowest greenhouse gas emissions of all types of oil sources.

As energy demand continues to recover, closing the Gulf of Mexico would only shift production to other regions - including Russia and China.

An average of 95.3 million b/d of petroleum and liquid fuels was consumed globally in October, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated in its November Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO).

Biden Election Likely To Impact Offshore Energy Production Over Time

"We’re hopeful that we’re going to have smart energy policy."

NOIA talks to Forbes about the impacts of potential offshore energy policies of a Joe Biden Administration, and why offshore oil and gas bans would be devastating for America.

The Biden Plan for a Clean Energy Revolution calls for “banning new oil and gas permitting on public lands and waters,” as part of the goal to ensure that the U.S. achieves net zero emissions by 2050 to forestall catastrophic climate change.

Opinion | Mr. Biden Will ‘Transition’ You Now

As the The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board writes, blocking new American oil and gas production would be devastating.

National Ocean Industries Association and EIAP examined what a Gulf of Mexico energy ban would mean. Hundreds of thousands of jobs across every state would disappear. Billions in government revenue would dry up, including funding for beloved conservation programs like the Land & Water Conservation Fund. Not to mention instead of using American energy produced with a small and sustainable environmental footprint, consumers would be forced to turn to countries like Putin's Russia to meet their energy demands.

American energy security should not be partisan.

Comment: Offshore energy should be a platform of every candidate

"[C]ontinued energy production in the Gulf of Mexico will translate to continued American energy security and employment stability at a time where consumers and workers need more certainty. As one of the most productive and prospective offshore basins in the world, the Gulf of Mexico should have a bright future due to the ingenuity and dedication to safety and environmental stewardship demonstrated by the men and women of the offshore energy industry.

Supporting American offshore oil and gas production should not be a partisan issue. American offshore energy - and all the benefits it provides - should be a platform every candidate supports."

National Ocean Industries Association Chairman and Halliburton Vice President of Industry Relations Galen Cobb and NOIA Vice Chairman and Talos Energy President & CEO Timothy S. Duncan write in today's Houston Chronicle that American offshore oil and gas provides economic, energy and strategic advantages that should be embraced by Republicans and Democrats alike.

"Now that we are emerging from the COVID-19 crisis and fix the damage it has caused, we need to secure our future and recovery by ensuring one of our region’s most important energy and economic assets, the Gulf of Mexico, can keep making its contribution to our well-being."

Consumer Energy Alliance and Kaitlin Schmidtke are 100% correct. The Gulf of Mexico is a strategic asset that benefits every American in every state. Continued leasing and development of the region by the U.S. Department of the Interior is critical in getting Americans back to work, protecting and conserving our environment and ensuring that our national security is not eroded through energy insecurity.

Offshore drilling can help rebuild nation’s parks

As the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's Walter Cruickshank writes, the benefits of #offshore #oilandgas production are felt well beyond the Gulf Coast:

"LWCF grants have helped state agencies and local communities acquire and develop nearly seven million acres of land and easements. Federal acquisition funds are used to acquire lands, waters, and easements necessary to achieve the natural, cultural, wildlife, and recreation management objectives of federal land management agencies."

Maintaining a strong American offshore oil and gas portfolio benefits every American, and should be widely supported across our great country.

Conserving our natural resources has long been tied to and directly supported by oil and gas development in the United States. This may seem counterintuitive to some, but offshore energy development revenues from qualified leases go right back into conservation initiatives throughout the United Stat...

Trump Confirms NC, Va. Drilling Moratorium | Coastal Review Online

Locking away the Eastern Gulf of Mexico through areas offshore North Carolina, and potentially Virginia, only undercuts American energy production. Time and time again, domestic energy moratoriums only serve to outsource production to countries such as Russia and Venezuela. They are more than happy to make up the supply gap. Not to mention, the uncertainty this adds to America's offshore wind outlook.

President Trump on Friday announced that he is extending the moratorium on offshore drilling to North Carolina and Virginia during a campaign rally in Newport News, Virginia.
