PGParks History will be celebrating Juneteenth all week long! Join us for our Journey to Juneteenth! Below is the history of the celebration and details about this week's virtual takeover!
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Since 2006, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County has organized an annual countywide Juneteenth celebration. It is a time of reflection and renewal as we celebrate and honor African American history and culture.
Join us all this week as we launch our first virtual Juneteenth celebration. It will feature a variety of engaging, interactive, and educational posts. Our celebration will culminate on Friday, June 19, 2020 with a day of workshops, demonstrations, and musical performances that celebrate the African American experience. #VirtualJuneteenth
