Fireworks are a staple of celebrations, but they carry severe risks that can transform a festive moment into a lifelong tragedy. Beyond the spectacle, these devices pose immediate threats to personal safety and community property. Regional leaders urge families to attend professional fireworks displays and avoid the use of illegal fireworks.

Fireman Stout suffered a fractured right leg when he fell down a pole hole on April 23, 1927.

A blood clot formed and passed through his lungs, causing his death.

🥵Heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea- move to a cool area and hydrate.

🚨Heat stroke: no sweating, high body temperature, confusion, loss of consciousness- call 911 immediately.

🌡️Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone without AC during extreme heat. DC Fire and EMS crews are ready to respond- don’t wait to call.
