During and year round, we are proud to partner with colleges and universities in the District on Fire Safety 101.

Staff and students on and off campus, can learn more about fire safety and evacuation training, smoke alarms, electric and lithium ion battery safety, cooking safety, and more through sessions or at events on campus.

Following the tragic fatal fire in the 600 block of Geranium Street NW, the DC Fire and EMS Fire Prevention team returned to the neighborhood to provide support and important fire safety information to residents.

Our team went door to door, sharing life-saving fire prevention tips and installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in homes.

While we cannot change what happened, we can work together to help prevent future tragedies.

Every home deserves to be a safe home. Our thoughts remain with those affected by this tragedy.

In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, DC Fire and EMS proudly collaborated with students from Coolidge High School to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) highlighting the importance of lithium-ion battery safety.

These talented students took on the challenge of educating residents about the dangers of improper charging, storage, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries.

Through creativity and teamwork, they are helping us spread an important message that could save lives!

This is Fire Prevention Week DC Fire and EMS is still busy helping keep students and staff safe throughout the school year.

As part of our School Safety Blitz, DC Fire and EMS fire inspectors continue to visit schools across the District to identify potential fire and life-safety hazards and make sure schools are meeting safety requirements.

From checking exits and fire protection systems to spotting potential hazards, these inspections are an important part of creating a safe environment for students, teachers and school staff all year long.
