U.S. Air Force medical students recently took part in the Expeditionary Medical Readiness Course at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis, Texas.

During the two-day course, students learned to apply the fundamentals of Tactical Combat Casualty Care and care under fire, from treating wounds and applying tourniquets to moving casualties through a simulated field environment, preparing them for patients in austere and deployed locations.

Citizen Air Commandos from the 919th Special Operations Wing joined NATO partners during Exercise Northern Viking 2026 in Iceland, conducting specialized air mobility operations in a demanding environment.

Working alongside the 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and Critical Care Air Transport Teams, the 919th SOW practiced tactical aeromedical evacuation while strengthening joint and allied readiness.

Air Force medical training makes a difference anywhere, at any time.

Congratulations to Senior Airman Summer H. Kaulfuss on being named the 2026 U.S. Air Force Angel of the Battlefield!

While off duty, SrA Kaulfuss and her husband witnessed a severe accident involving an overturned vehicle. Without hesitation, they pulled over to assist. While her husband contacted 911, SrA Kaulfuss drew upon her EMT and Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training to deliver emergency medical care to the injured civilian until first responders took over.

Her quick thinking, technical expertise, and selfless courage represent the very best of our service.

Twenty-five years after 9/11, the Air Force Medical Service continues its “Medics of 9/11” series, sharing firsthand accounts from those who served during the response.

Airmen from across Dyess Air Force Base joined Abilene-area emergency responders for a major accident response exercise at Dyess.

The scenario simulated an on-base mishap involving a 317th Airlift Wing C-130J Super Hercules. An inflight emergency call to the aircraft control tower followed by a controlled detonation conducted by the 7th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal flight signaled the beginning of the exercise, prompting military and civilian first responders to respond to a simulated aircraft crash and multiple casualties.

Kayla Amie holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership and a Bachelor of Science in education, and has worked steadily since she was legally old enough to hold a job. But when she married a U.S. Air Force Airman, that professional background no longer guaranteed a career and steady income.

“Every four years you are starting from scratch,” Amie said.

Like many military spouses, Amie faced another military-directed move, better known as a permanent change of station (PCS), which meant leaving her job to face uncertain employment or splitting up her family. It is a difficult decision the Air Force hopes to make easier through the Global Military Spouse Connection (GMSC) Program.

✈️ One final flight. Two generations of service.

Before officially retiring, U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Alfred Flowers, who recently closed his 29-year career as the Defense Health Agency Resources and Personnel Integration assistant director and Medical Service Corps chief, visited Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, where he flew with his son, 1st Lt. Kendell Flowers, 434th Flying Training Squadron instructor pilot, and engaged with Airmen across the installation.

Experiencing the mission alongside his son gave Alfred a new perspective on the work of the Airmen who develop the Air Force’s future aviators.
