Wanda Alston Foundation The Wanda Alston Foundation provides housing and support for LGBTQ+ youth, 18-24, experiencing homelessness.

The Wanda Alston House is a transitional housing center for LGBTQ teens aged 16 to 24. It is a three-story, eight-bedroom brick building and is located in NE Washington, D.C. It is named after Wanda Alston, a local lesbian activist and the first Director of the Mayor Office of LGBTQ Affairs. Unlike a homeless shelter which provides basic, emergency room and board on a daily basis, the Alston Hous

e selects prospective residents through a screening process and provides residents room and board for a period ranging from a few weeks toup to 18 months. It also provides a licensed social worker who is designated to provide residents with guidance and direction to social and community resources in order to elevate the residents to a point of self-sufficiency and independent living.
