On this Arbor Day we want to celebrate Mt. Zion-Female Union Band Historic Memorial Park which is working to uplift the Black history of Georgetown. Recently we collaborated with this organization to plant 150 tree seedlings to help manage erosion due to stormwater runoff, which has threatened to expose graves. Red Oak, Poplar, Persimmon, Pawpaw and Redbud seedlings (all native to DC) were strategically planted in small holes throughout the site to minimizing disturbance of what lies beneath this hillside sacred space overlooking Rock Creek.

Learn more about this planting event and the history of this cemetery here: www.mtzion-fubs.org/

When do we start? When do we *lead* with a total ban on single use plastic?
This week, we had tree crews in our block. That was great and much appreciated. Not so great was the oil spill they left all over our front yards, retaining walls, front step and side walk, which will soon make its way to the sewer and into our watershed. Take a look at the video and then please let me know when someone from the city will come address this. I have placed a ticket with 311. Cc:Elissa Silverman for DC Council Charles Allen
