"J. Michael Luttig is not a Democrat. He’s not a “radical leftist.” He is one of the most respected conservative legal minds of the last 30+ years — and he is sounding the alarm.
Luttig was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit by Republican President George H. W. Bush and served 15 years as a federal appellate judge. Before that, he worked in the Reagan White House and at the Justice Department, clerked for conservative icon Antonin Scalia, and served as a top aide to Chief Justice Warren Burger. After the bench, he became executive vice president and general counsel of Boeing, and now advises companies like Coca‑Cola and major democracy and rule‑of‑law organizations.
This is the man who told Mike Pence’s team that the Vice President had ZERO constitutional authority to overturn the 2020 election and then went before the January 6 Committee to say January 6 was the “decisive day” in Trump’s plan to overturn a free and fair election. Since then, he’s warned that Trump is waging a “war” on the judiciary and the rule of law, and that America is on a knife’s edge between constitutional government and something far darker.
When someone with this conservative pedigree says the rule of law is in danger, we should listen. He’s not fighting for a party. He’s fighting for the Constitution — and asking the rest of us to step onto the battlefield for democracy, too."
