Just as the bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act codified gay marriage into federal law while enshrining strong protections for religious liberty, today's decision does nothing to diminish LGBT Americans in the eyes of the law while reaffirming individuals' First Amendment freedoms. LGBT conservatives have long believed, as Justice Gorsuch wrote in his opinion, that 'tolerance, not coercion, is our nation's answer, and forcing anyone to create expressive speech with which they disagree is a massive step backwards."
The Supreme Court ruled in the case of Colorado graphic designer Lorie Smith, who wanted to create wedding websites, but not for same-sex marriages.
