Hi, I’m Ron Schubert and I’m a PASS Region 2 National Legislative Committee rep. I'm a dedicated public servant at the FAA where I am an Airways Transportation Systems Specialist in New Mexico at the Albuquerque ARTCC. My wife and I vote together and so it is always a family affair. We look at the ballot for our legislative district, research the candidates and other items on the ballot, watch the debates, talk about what we are thinking and make our individual informed decisions. Then we exercise our constitutional right and we vote together. I encourage all PASS members to always VOTE! Check out the election rules in your area and find out if early voting is available. #ExerciseYourRight #PASSVotes #PublicService

Because Congress failed to extend the Payroll Support Program, tens of thousands of aviation industry workers are facing weeks, if not months, of no pay. “For the last six months the employees we represent at the FAA have worked alongside our aviation union sisters and brothers in order to support the flying public, even as air travel has plummeted,” said PASS National President Mike Perrone. “We have all done our part to ensure that much needed medicine, supplies and essential personnel have reached their destinations.” These workers must get #ReliefNow in order to help the aviation industry get back on its feet. #ExtendPSP #1u #unionsolidarity #aviationsafety

PASS is proud to be part of the coalition of dedicated unions that make up the Department for Professional Employees, AFL-CIO. Employees must have a say in how and when they return to their workplaces during the pandemic. "Union professionals have also helped shape workplace health and safety measures and collaborated with employers to avoid layoffs when dealing with the economic consequences of the pandemic," writes DPE President Jennifer Dorning #1u #unionsolidarity

DPE President Jennifer Dorning in today’s Philadelphia Inquirer:

“Pre-pandemic, many professionals wanted to form unions. Now even more need unions to have a say in their workplace.”

PASS thanks the dedicated public servants we represent at the Federal Aviation Administration and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point who will be on the job for their fellow citizens this Independence Day. July 4th will look much different this year as communities adjust their celebrations to keep everyone safe. But this holiday was never about fireworks or cookouts. It’s about the ideals that the American flag and the Declaration of Independence represent. Our founding fathers and mothers could not have known that 244 years later, the American Experiment would be transforming itself on a daily basis. This year has tested the nation’s resolve with a pandemic, economic uncertainty and protests for racial justice. But remembering the words found in the Declaration of Independence can sustain the country: “we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”

An original ‘Juneteenth’ order found in the National Archives

Celebrating #Juneteenth has taken on added significance after the events of recent weeks. The National Archives yesterday uncovered the original handwritten order issued June 19, 1865: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, ‘all slaves are free.” The order goes on to read: “This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.” In the intervening 155 years, PASS and other labor unions in the private and public sector, have made it their mission to raise up the voices of workers to ensure that all are treated equitably. Although there is much to be done, PASS is committed to “an absolute equality of personal rights” for all. We honor all who speak up and speak out.

National Archives finds the original hand written Juneteeth order. Proclamation informed last Texas enslaved they were free.

Dedication is in their DNA

When speaking with new employees at the FAA who are part of the bargaining units represented by PASS, the union is quick to point out that being pro-union does not mean being anti-management or anti-FAA—it means you have a seat at the table and your voice is heard. Case in point: PASS Chapter FL1 president Douglas Lowe is featured in this video with Federal Aviation Administration Vice President of Technical Operations, Jeff Planty, a one-time PASS member! They both speak of the dedication of the FAA workforce during this challenging time. PASS is proud of all our members who work to protect the safety of the American flying public. #aviationsafety #publicservice #1u #unionsolidarity

Feds Feed Families

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has kicked off its annual Feds Feed Families campaign. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, food drives aren't being held in federal facilities but the need for donations for the nation's food banks and pantries is greater than ever. Many people were thrown out of work when the national emergency began and with schools shut down, children in many school districts have been unable to get healthy meals in their classrooms. Please support Feds Feed Families to help your community feed all who are food insecure. PASS-represented employees at the Federal Aviation Administration and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point are encouraged to participate in any way they can. The hunger is real. And unions know how to help. Feeding America #publicservice #unionsolidarity

On June 25, 1950, nearly 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean People’s Army crossed over the border with the Republic of Korea to the south. U.S. troops were deployed in July; ultimately, 33,686 Americans died in combat. As recently as 2018, boxes of remains believed to be Americans who went missing during the war were returned home.

Officially, the Korean War never ended. Although the armistice agreement signed on July 27, 1953 brought an end to the hostilities that killed 2.5 million people, the ceasefire never gave way to a peace treaty.

This Memorial Day weekend, 70 years after the war began, PASS honors the brave Americans, who, as inscribed on the Korean War Memorial in Washington, DC, “answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met."

Crisis exposes how America has hollowed out its government

"This hollowing out has been going on for years as a gridlocked Congress preferred continuing resolutions and budgetary caps to hardheaded decisions about vulnerable governmental infrastructure and leaders did little to address structural weaknesses." Add to that a 35-day government shutdown last year! PASS represented employees at the Federal Aviation Administration and Dept. of Defense are proud to serve their country. But they need the appropriate resources and staffing to do the best job possible for their fellow Americans. #publicservice #aviationsafety #federalemployees

The government’s halting response represents chronic weaknesses and years of underinvestment, compounded by President Trump’s open hostility to the federal bureaucracy.

Today is Workers Memorial Day, a day to highlight the preventable nature of most workplace incidents & to promote campaigns in the fight for workplace safety improvements. In the age of COVID-19, those campaigns are needed now more than ever.

PASS supports H.R. 6559, the COVID–19 Every Worker Protection Act of 2020, to require the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to issue an emergency temporary standard to protect employees from exposure to COVID-19 in the workplace.
