Urgent action is needed to reduce emissions. Innovation is key. 💡🌍
Swedish companies deliver green solutions where they are needed most. The steel industry, for example, is one that emits a lot of carbon dioxide.
To reduce the steel industry’s carbon footprint, LKAB, SSAB and Vattenfall have partnered to launch the #HYBRIT project for fossil-free steel production that uses fossil-free hydrogen instead of coal.
Sweden’s 🇸🇪 target is net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. Swedish innovation can help to reduce emissions both at home and globally.

Looking Across the Atlantic: Swedish-American Relations in the 20th Century
Even though Sweden and the United States are separated by an entire ocean, the two nations have a close and longstanding relationship. Cultural, social, political and economic links bind the two countries together across the Atlantic.
The photography and video art exhibition Faraway So Close, currently on display at House of Sweden in Washington, D.C., shows how prominent Swedish artists have experienced and depicted American society since the 1960s. Following a short presentation of Faraway So Close, this event will feature a panel discussion that explores the images and conceptions that American and Swedish peoples have of each other, and how these ideas travel between the two countries.
Participants include:
*Monica Obniski, Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia.
*Dag Blanck, Professor of North American Studies at Uppsala University, Sweden.
*Frida Beckman, Professor of Literature at Stockholm University, Sweden, will moderate the discussion.
This event is a collaboration between the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, D.C., and Anekdot Magazine at Stockholm University in Sweden.

Today is #WomensEqualityDay in the 🇺🇸 US!
101 years ago, in 1921, women voted for the first time in a Swedish parliamentary election, after the 🇸🇪 Riksdag approved universal and equal suffrage for women and men.
After the historic 1921 elections, the first 5 women also entered as members of Parliament: Kerstin Hesselgren, Elisabeth Tamm, Nelly Thüring, Bertha Wellin, and Agda Östlund.

#greeninnovation - why catch the waves when you can soar silently above them? Swedish Candela is re-inventing marine transportation and delivering speed, style and range, thanks to their pioneering twin hydrofoil technology. 🇸🇪
A hydrofoil is like an aircraft wing under the boat that makes the whole hull rise above the surface, reducing water friction by up to 80% compared to a conventional planing boat. Lower energy consumption means extended range with smaller batteries, and smaller batteries equal lighter boats, giving less energy consumption. Well, you get the drift. 🚤
Candelas' award-winning 100% electric boats include a wide range of vessels, from leisure cruisers to taxi boats to taxi boats and shuttle ships for 30 passengers!

In times like these, fact-checking is more important than ever as disinformation spreads quickly, especially on social media. This has created real challenges for democracy.
Source criticism is not easy, but there are steps that can be taken to reduce the chances of falling for false information. Here's a short check list👇
Katrine Marçal is a 🇸🇪 writer, journalist, and correspondent for Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Her first book 📙, 'Who Cooked Adam Smith’s Dinner?', was shortlisted for the August Prize and won the Lagercrantzen award. Her latest book is called 'Mother of Invention: How Good Ideas Get Ignored in an Economy Built for Men'. An eye-opening examination of business, technology, and innovation through a feminist lens.
Drawing on examples from electric cars to bra seamstresses to tech billionaires, Katrine Marçal shows how gender bias stifles the economy and holds us back, delaying innovations, sometimes by hundreds of years, and distorting our understanding of our history.

Artist Talk and Opening of Suedi (Slow Wave Edit)
Embassy of Sweden proudly presents the videowork Suedi (Slow Wave Edit) by Stockholm-based artist and filmmaker Santiago Mostyn. Tune in from the comfort of your home and learn more about the artist who is currently exhibiting at House of Sweden in Washington D.C. with his video work Suedi (Slow Wave Edit). The conversation will be livestreamed from House of Sweden and moderated by Swedish curator, Johan Pousette, with introductory remarks by Cultural Counselor Helene Larsson Pousette.
Santiago Mostyn makes films, installations, and performances that challenge the divide between disparate cultural spheres, employing an intuitive process to engage with knowledge and history grounded equally in the body and the rational mind. Mostyn is based in Sweden but was born in the United States in 1981 and maintains ties to Zimbabwe as well as Trinidad and Tobago—the countries of his upbringing.
Mostyn’s installation Suedi (Slow Wave Edit) consists of two music videos created in response to Erik Lundin’s Suedi, a popular Swedish rap song that has become an anthem for Afro-Swedish youth. In one video, two wrestlers are filmed sparring in a subtly choreographed routine; in the second video, drone footage used by news outlets to depict the movement of asylum seekers through southern Europe is re-edited to highlight the historical precedence of this displacement.
Mostyn worked with Slow Wave (Susanna Jablonski and William Rickman) to chop-and-screw Lundin’s original production of Suedi into a moving composition that resonates with the depictions of displacement and physical aggression in the videos. Lundin’s lyrics are left untouched, his narrative of alienation in the country of his birth rising over the images.
#FeministFriday - Did you know that 7 countries around the world are pursuing a #FeministForeignPolicy? In addition to Sweden, they are: Canada, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Mexico and Spain.

Today we honour the memory of Dag Hammarskjöld, who died 60 years ago in a plane crash day in what is now Zambia. Dag Hammarskjöld served as the second UN Secretary-General, setting the standard for what it is to be an independent diplomat and civil servant. His ideas are now part of the UN’s fundamental values. 🇺🇳
Dag Hammarskjöld considered it the UN’s responsibility to protect small-state interests against major powers. He was also one of the architects of the UN’s peacekeeping operations. We remember him for his integrity and his actions based on moral and ethical principles.
Dag Hammarskjöld fought for global peace and security right up until his death. 🕊
