Jazz in our park
Eric Rawdon and a few friends have hired a jazz band to play at the French Street park from 2-3pm on Sunday November 1st (this Sunday). They'd love to have some of our neighbors come and enjoy the music as well, with masks and social distancing. The band will set up under the tree on 10th and French, but I am open to suggestions. If it is too cold or rainy it will be rescheduled for Nov. 14th.

Hiring the band was not exactly cheap, so if any folks are interested in attending and wanted to chip in a bit that would be great but not required. Also if there was lots of interest from the neighborhood to pitch in, they could extend the show. The cost for two hours (vs one) is only $250 more. Also it is Halloween weekend, so costumes would be more than welcomed! For more details, contact Eric at [email protected]

How Milkweed Location Influences Monarch Egg-Laying and Survival

We just planted several milkweed yesterday!

A study examining monarch butterflies' preferences for laying eggs on milkweed in cropland, open ground, or prairie—as well as predation rates on eggs in those settings—offers some mixed signals for monarch-conservation efforts.

Designing the Butterfly-Friendly City

With recent drops in the population of monarch butterflies, U.S. cities have rallied to plant milkweed and increase pollinator habitat.

Many, Many THANKS to Sarah Heidema and Gail R. Hansen for all the help weeding, digging and planting this weekend. The park looks wonderful! Also, many thanks to Ed Keable and Griffin for the thankless job of weeding the paving stone area. And gracias to Helen Mohrmann for the kind donation. Most of the new plantings were from this generous gift.
