🦅For the American University School of Public Affairs, Thank you & Happy Passover & Easter! @ times, it's hard not to prayerfully & silently, break-out into song 🇺🇸. " Our problems are man-made. Therefore, they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings. Man’s reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable and we believe they can do it again ". 🦅 Excerpt from President John F. Kennedy's commencement address @ A.U. campus, John M. Reeves Athletic Field, June 10, 1963. FMM, School of Public Affairs '82. P.S. Go Eagles & Ciao to Mario! 🇺🇸
Hi everyone! Next year marks 100 years since women won the right to vote and we want to celebrate. Join us for the first ever planning meeting on Monday, February 25th. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. See you there!
I want to thanks the AU School of Public Affairs for their generosity and kindness toward forloughed federal workers and for their excellent day of training! Thanks to all!
"...odds are that the federal government will, in fact, do nothing. It’s tempting to blame inaction on current political conditions, like having a climate change denier in the White House or intense partisan polarization in Washington. But the unfortunate reality is that American politicians have never been good at dealing with big, long-term problems. Lawmakers have tended to act only when they had no other choice."
You made it - you're officially a graduate! Be sure to check out your photos from your ceremony. The can be found at www.gradimages.com/americanuniversity.
SANITY ON RUSSIA AT THE NATIONAL PRESS CLUB On December 7, 2017 Ray McGovern moderated an event at the NPC in which Gilbert Doctorow addressed the wider, Russia-related issues in his new book, Does America Have a Future? Gil is an American historian of Russia, whose academic and business credentials simply won’t quit — not to mention his accomplishments as an author, notably of Does Russia Have a Future (2015). Gil asked Ray not only to moderate but also to chime in at will. Ray found it difficult to avoid abusing the privilege; it all made for a lively Q&A. Here is the video; the Q&A, begins at 1:05:10. https://youtu.be/ciW4yod8upg Doctorow, a graduate of Harvard College with a PhD from Columbia, has been “banned in Boston,” so to speak — and in Manhattan, as well. Those who watch his NPC presentation and the relaxed but pointed Q&A will find it easy to understand why.

I'm a former graduate of SPA in 2014 and wanted to pass along an opportunity for anyone interested in giving back in a meaningful way with a low time commitment. Please consider signing up and passing this information along: Interested in mentoring opportunities? The Illinois Science & Technology Institute (ISTI) is a nonprofit organization that runs a virtual mentoring platform called the Mentor Matching Engine (MME). MME is an online collaboration tool that pairs high school students with mentors to collaborate on student-driven research projects. MME is a great way for undergrad and grad students to volunteer and give back to younger students - anytime, anywhere. It is also a helpful way to build your own experience in your field of study, build your CV, and interact with your community. We typically ask mentors to commit about an hour a week once you have been requested into a project. Communication is entirely virtual with all discussion and video conferencing through the platform. Mentoring on MME is a great way to reach students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to work with mentors like you, and is a low and easy commitment to have a meaningful impact. This year, we have a real need for social science mentors to support projects in areas such as sociology, psychology, political science, etc. Sign up here:
