Happy birthday to the world's oldest naval vessel still afloat, The USS Constitution! "Old Ironsides" is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the U.S. Navy named by President George Washington after the United States Constitution. She was launched in 1797, one of six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794 and the third constructed. #HIST

Naima

We’d like to pay tribute to jazz legend and former U.S. Navy Musician John Coltrane. Coltrane enlisted in August of 1945 and was assigned to reserve status in an African-American unit. Some of his first recordings were made while in the Navy where he performed with a group called the Melody Masters. From the album Giant Steps, which celebrated it’s 60th anniversary this year, we hope you enjoy John Coltrane’s “Naima”. #NavyMusic #USNavy

#ICYMI: This week the United States Naval Academy opened Hopper Hall, named after the famed mathematician, Rear Adm. Grace Hopper. The building, which houses the academy's new center for cybersecurity studies, is the first at any of the three major service academies to be named after a woman.

"Adm. Hopper was a brilliant computer scientist whose contributions to the field are responsible for many of the modern computing advancements we take for granted today. She was an innovative thinker who bucked against archaic systems that stifled our nation’s advancements in technology.” -Vice Adm. Sean Buck, Superintendent, U.S. Naval Academy

The Sullivan family legacy is a story of unwavering American spirit and patriotism. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, five Irish-American brothers from Iowa joined the Navy's war efforts. The Sullivan brothers reported for duty aboard USS Juneau Feb. 14, 1942, and died, nine months later, during the Battle of Guadalcanal along with 682 shipmates.

We honor the Sullivan brothers, along with all the heroic servicemembers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. #245NavyBirthday #VictoryAtSea #NavyMusic

Sad news everyone, because of Covid the Navy Band will not be having their Christmas concert this year. For everyone's safety. They will pick some videos from the last three years and share them via social media. I just found the Sea Chanters in 2017 and haven't missed a Christmas concert since then. I will settle for the videos but can't wait to see them in person again. Stay safe everyone and God bless you.💜⚓️🎶🇺🇸

Opportunity for active duty or Veterans! New Musicals Inc (NMI) is adapting veteran's stories into ten-minute musicals to be filmed as part of a web-series to honor veterans. Veterans whose stories are selected for development will receive a $1000 honorarium and hold on to the rights of their stories. Don't let the "musical" aspect dissuade you. NMI just needs a compelling story from your background and they will bring a composer and lyricist together to turn it into song. They will also welcome you into the collaboration process if you want to be included on the creative side. See the link for info and a very short video that explains the project. Deadline is November 20. www.nmi.org/veterans

Recalling fondly our visit to THE NAVY BAND several years ago! Diane and I took our grand daughters to see the Navy Band at the Sail Loft... MUCS Chris Erbe gave us a great welcome and tour. Don’t remember the year. Would like to go back to visit the museum. Used to take my kids to see Navy Band at their concerts at Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge; saw one of their groups at the Bloomsburg Fair in PA too. Enjoyed my time with CincLantFlt band in Norfolk in ‘63, CWO George Briley👍. GO NAVY‼️
