It’s and we are sharing our history. After years of advocacy, the Homosexual Law Reform Act was passed in 1986 decriminalising some homosexual acts. The Human Rights Act 1993 made further progress by making it illegal to discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation.

It’s and we are sharing our history. Pride festivals and fairs began in New Zealand in 1968. Many of these festivals were a response to the global late stage HIV pandemic and enabled the community to come together.
It’s Pride Month 🌎🌈and we are sharing our history. The campaign for homosexual law reform began in the 1970s. Member of Parliament Venn Young introduced a Crimes Amendment Bill in 1974 to legalise private 'homosexual acts' between consenting adults. The Bill failed to pass, but it was still an important step forward to where New Zealand stands today.
This we are sharing our history of LGBTQIA+ . Did you know 🇳🇿 has had organised q***r community networks since as early as 1962? Learn more ➡️https://tinyurl.com/raj4m4cv
This month and every month we strongly support the human rights of those in the LGBTIA+ community.

Earlier this week the New Zealand Embassy was pleased to support the Congressional Soccer Tournament that brought together Embassies, Members of Congress & their staff, and lobbyists, to play soccer (aka football!) to raise money to support sport in underserved communities. Audi Field – the home of D.C. United & Washington Spirit - saw some great contests, including New Zealand’s matches with Ecuador, Ukraine and the US State Department. Rather than talk results, let’s just say soccer was the winner on the day! Thanks U.S. Soccer Foundation!

As we commemorate , we remember and honour the contributions of Pacific nations in world war one and later military conflicts and the shared bonds with New Zealand.
In 2021 the Pacific Islands Memorial —Te Reo Hotunui o Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa — was unveiled at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington, paying tribute to our deep hononga connections with the Pacific.
Designed by Michael Tuffery, the memorial is a reflection of this close relationship and recognising the Pacific Regions contribution at times of conflict and the history that bonds us together.

Ka maumahara tonu tatou ki a ratou – we will remember them. On 25 April, no matter the circumstance or location, New Zealanders around the world remember the sacrifices made by all who fought in The World Wars. Today we think of those who have experienced war and conflict: our veterans, our armed services personnel, families of the fallen, and our refugee communities. Let us think too of New Zealanders, experiencing fear and heartache for their families and friends affected by current conflicts around the world.
