As America 250 events approach across the National Capital Region, remember: the skies around Washington, DC are heavily restricted airspace. Recreational and unauthorized drone operations are prohibited in and around the National Capital Area, including near monuments, federal buildings, military installations, and major event locations.

Flying a drone in restricted airspace can result in significant fines, confiscation of equipment, and criminal penalties.

Before you fly, always check FAA restrictions and Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs). Help keep our celebrations safe and secure for everyone.

For over a year, Iā€™ve had a front-row seat to the work of the FEMA Review Council through site visits, public engagements, and countless conversations with leaders, responders, and survivors across the country. What I witnessed reinforced a simple truth: disasters donā€™t discriminate, and preparedness, coordination, and leadership matter now more than ever.

Serving in this effort alongside Governor Glenn Youngkin has been one of the most humbling experiences of my career. Iā€™m especially grateful to President Donald J. Trump for establishing this important mission through Executive Order and for appointing the Council members tasked with examining the future of emergency management in our nation.

The recommendations and relationships built through this effort have the potential to shape the future of emergency management and improve how we support Americans on some of the hardest days of their lives.

But the work doesnā€™t end with a report or final meeting. The real challenge begins now: implementation. Turning ideas into action will require persistence, partnership, and continued commitment from all of us in this profession.

Iā€™m grateful to have played a role in this important chapter and remain committed to serving, as I always have, as a lifelong public servant.

First and foremost, thank you to my wife and kids for your endless love and patience over the past three years. I couldnā€™t have done this journey without you.

I am deeply grateful and humbled to have spent my career in public service, and especially thankful to the Governor Glenn Youngkin for trusting me with the responsibility of leading the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. Carrying that trust on behalf of the Commonwealth and its people has been one of the most meaningful responsibilities of my life.

The true strength of this agency has always been its people, the colleagues I stood beside during some of the most challenging days weā€™ve faced. Over the past three years we worked through federally declared disasters, tragic events, national security challenges, and severe weather incidents, often during long days and nights, while continuing the essential work that rarely makes headlines. Through it all, this team showed up with professionalism, resilience, and compassion, protecting communities and supporting recovery when it mattered most.

My parents taught me to always leave things better than you found them. I am proud of what we accomplished together and confident that our collective efforts have strengthened the agency and better prepared the Commonwealth for whatever lies ahead.

To the Governor, thank you for the trust and support. And to this incredible team, THANK YOU. Your dedication, service, and friendship meant more to me than you know. I will always be grateful for the privilege of serving alongside you.
