The celebration which was hosted by the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in D.C. in its capacity as the Chair of ASEAN Committee in Washington DC (ACW), highlighted ASEAN’s enduring spirit of unity, cooperation and friendship, while reaffirming the importance of ASEAN centrality and the strong partnership between ASEAN and the United States.

On 8 August 2026, the Embassy of Malaysia participated in EleFest at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C.

At the Malaysia booth, visitors took part in the “Pin the Tail on the Elephant” game and received a selection of Malaysian treats and souvenirs, including Malaysian snacks, ice lolly pops (yes the ais krim Malaysia!), elephant-themed merchandise and Budi the Elephant colouring books for children, and many more.

It was a fun-filled day of learning, games and treats, while raising awareness of elephant conservation and introducing visitors to a little more of Malaysia’s wildlife.

On 4 August 2026, Ambassador Tan Sri Shahrul Ikram visited Phoenix Tailings’ facility in Exeter, New Hampshire. The Ambassador and delegation was welcomed by Mr. Anthony Balladon, Chief Commercial Officer and Co-Founder, and were given a tour of the company’s operations and processing facilities for rare earth elements.

The visit provided a valuable insight into Phoenix Tailing’s innovative technologies and sustainable approaches in extracting and processing rare earth elements.

On 28 July 2026, the Embassy of Malaysia in collaboration with the Washington Inter-Governmental Group (WIPG) and the World Trade Centre DC commemorated America’s 250th Anniversary with a reception celebrating the Malaysia-United States Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Ambassador Tan Sri Shahrul Ikram highlighted the long standing friendship between Malaysia and the United States from trade and investment to security cooperation, education, and people to people ties; and reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to deepening this partnership in the years ahead.

The evening gathered U.S. government representatives, Congressional staffers, diplomats, business leaders, and friends of Malaysia, all joining in tribute to a friendship built on trust, collaboration, and mutual respect.
