#ANationsStory

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society exists to serve the diverse group of men and women who are currently serving and who have served in the US Navy and Marine Corps supporting and defending our Constitution, freedoms and our way of life. We at NMCRS recognize today, Juneteenth, as a time for reflection, conversation, and action; a day to pause, put our differences aside, have the difficult conversations and seek to understand other perspectives. Racism and intolerance have no place in our country, in our society or in our workplace. We all must feel valued and included.

Our Story

In 1904, several Naval officers, wives of Naval officers, and civilian friends saw the need for more formal and organized assistance. The Society was incorporated on January 23 of that year. Initial funding came from the proceeds of the 1903 Army-Navy Football Game held at Franklin Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In its first year, the Society gave $9,500 to widows and families of enlisted men.

For over a century, the Society has expanded its services and programs to support the changing needs of service members and their families. Our support is provided by people who care about making life better for Sailors and Marines. Some things never change.

NMCRS has evolved through the years and currently provides emergency financial assistance to eligible recipients in the form of: • Interest-free loans or grants to deal with emergency needs • Education loans and grants • Lifetime benefits information assistance • Money Management • Budget for Baby Workshops • Thrift Shops • Visiting Nurse Services For more information, please call (202) 433-3364 -or- visit our website: http://www.nmcrs.org/locations/entry/washington-navy-yard
