While maintaining a hi-visibility police presence in the area of the King-Greenleaf Recreation Center in response to numerous assaults and shootings in the area; one of our members was able to quickly respond to and assist a 1D unit who was requesting assistance with stopping a subject who matched the description of a suspect in an AWIK (assault with intent to kill) caper that occurred at the Rec Center last Friday and was now refusing to stop. Together the 1D and PSD member were able to stop the subject; who was ultimately arrested for traffic related offenses; while the AWIK caper remains under investigation.

Good job to all involved members!

Hazard Pay with a backdate to 03/16/2020 plus 40 hours of gifted annual leave authorized for all PSD members; Grade 14 and below.

Hazard Pay Stipend Announced by
Mayor Bowser
Mayor Bowser has announced today in an email to all employees that she has authorized a $14 a day per diem for employees who are required to physically report to work to fulfill their official duties during the COVID-19 health emergency. This measure applies to MPD.

Employees who report “Regular Pay” on their timesheet will receive an additional $14 in their paycheck for days they physically report to work, up to $140 per pay period.

The per diem is effective immediately with the first payout beginning the week of April 20, retroactive to March 16 and will continue as long as the city is financially able to provide.

Additionally, The Mayor has authorized a Time Off Award of 40 hours of Leave for all employees who must physically report to work during the duration of the health emergency, to be used after the emergency concludes in accordance with your agencies leave policies.

On April 1, we heard the member's calls to look into hazard pay and the Union immediately went to work trying to advance this request. I would like to thank the Executive Committee of the Union for making diligent efforts to get this matter addressed by the City. Thank you to Mayor Bowser, Charles Allen's office, and Chief Newsham for supporting this measure.

Please continue to be safe and advise your Union officials about any concerns you may have.

PSPD members conducting High Visibility Focused Enforcement in the area around the Petworth Recreation Center on a beautiful February Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, this Playground was the location of a recent shooting thereby elevating its status and ensuring it will have adequate police presence from PSPD and our MPD 4D partners for the next 14 days. With more than 100 Recreation Centers, City Parks and Playgrounds spread throughout the city; DGS’s Protective Services Division is woefully understaffed to even begin making a dent in ensuring that these wonderful Public Facilities are safe for District residents and visitors to use and enjoy.

As the demolition of the former DC General Hospital kicks into full swing; it seemed appropriate to revisit the ACC Building; which housed PSPD’s Headquarters from 2008-2015.

(DC General Hospital ceased operations in 2001; however, the 20+ buildings that made up the former hospital continue to serve the District Government as office space, homeless shelters and clinics from that time until the present day)

Happy New Year PSPD - I hope you all remain safe and well in 2019.
At times I miss working at PSPD or now PSD. Made good friends and had good times in the first two years. Missing working with Andy and John we had good times. Wish we were riding calls together again. The place just changed so much and was negative toward the end I had to leave. Wasn't the foot soldiers it was the management who kept on changing things to suit their agendas in which killed the morale. Be safe and God Bless
