Today we are remembering our former member; and brother in blue: Maurice Lynch who we’ve been saddened to learn has passed away. Maurice was a member of PSPD Recruit Class 2007-01, and will be greatly missed by all of us. Rest Easy “Moe”, We Have The Watch From Here.
Protective Services Division members and personnel from various Allied Agencies are deployed at Libraries and Rec Centers throughout the city supporting the Bowser Administration’s Rapid Covid Test Kit Distribution Program late into the night on this night before Christmas Eve.
Today, we learned of the passing of an old friend, colleague and brother in blue.

PSPD members out on an early Fall evening in the Ivy City Neighborhood with DCFD and AMR on a “Man Down” call resulting from the use of the very potent “BabyDJ” variety of Synthetic Drugs that are abudently popular in and around the District’s Public Homeless Shelters.

PSPD units out on a call for police service at The Fields at RFK Campus on a hot and humid July afternoon.
During the festivities on the National Mall in celebration of Independence Day; PSD along with our District, Federal and Regional partners stood ready in the District’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to jointly react to, coordinate response efforts and mitigate any emergencies occurring in the National Mall area. Happy Independence Day!
A crisp Spring morning at the District of Columbia National Guard Armory; where our members continue to support the DC National Guard’s role in leading Operation Capitol Response; that has now been extended until the end of May.
On March 9, 1977; members of a fringe Muslim group, armed with shotguns and swords shot their way into the District Building (now the John Wilson Building), killing a reporter, mortally wounding a DC Protective Services Police Officer, and leaving Marion Barry, then a council member, gravely injured from a gunshot wound to the chest.
DC Protective Services Officer Mack Wesley Cantrell would later succumb to the injuries he sustained that fateful day.
Today, we remember that day and we remember the sacrifice made by Officer Mack Cantrell.

It’s a snowy Sunday morning at the DC Armory; where our members continue to diligently support the DC National Guard’s Operation Capitol Response; that is forecast to be ongoing at least thru the end of March.

Our members continue to work in support of Operation Capitol Response and the 59th Presidential Inauguration... like many other agencies with days off canceled and extended shifts; our members are working vigilantly to help defend the Nation’s Capitol against all enemies; Foreign and Domestic.
Remembering our retired member; Robert Heatley; who passed away on June 19, 2020. Robert Heatley retired at the rank of CAPTAIN in 2000 after a distinguished 34 year career with our Agency and will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

As thousands of peaceful protestors assemble in the District of Columbia today; our members are deployed throughout the city in support of critical District Government Operations. #JustitiaOmnibus
While maintaining a hi-visibility police presence in the area of the King-Greenleaf Recreation Center in response to numerous assaults and shootings in the area; one of our members was able to quickly respond to and assist a 1D unit who was requesting assistance with stopping a subject who matched the description of a suspect in an AWIK (assault with intent to kill) caper that occurred at the Rec Center last Friday and was now refusing to stop. Together the 1D and PSD member were able to stop the subject; who was ultimately arrested for traffic related offenses; while the AWIK caper remains under investigation.

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Lieutenant William Ladson (Retired). Lieutenant Ladson was a lifelong public servant who dedicated his life to serving his nation and community and will be fondly remembered by all of us. Please keep Lieutenant Ladson's family and friends in your prayers. Rest easy Lou we have the watch from here. Fair winds and following seas Marine. Salute.

We are very saddened to learn of the passing of Sergeant Donna Allen of the 3rd District due to a medical emergency earlier today. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
The DC Police Union regrets to announce we’ve lost yet another member. Sgt. Donna Allen of the 3rd District suffered a medical emergency today and later passed away at a local hospital. With over 30 years of service, she will be greatly missed. It is not believed to be COVID related.
We are mourning the loss of our brother in blue: Sgt. Mark Eckenrode of the Court Liaison Division. He is survived by his wife and 3 children. While this loss was completely unexpected, it is not believed to be COVID related. EOW 4/6/2020.

PSPD members conducting High Visibility Focused Enforcement in the area around the Petworth Recreation Center on a beautiful February Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, this Playground was the location of a recent shooting thereby elevating its status and ensuring it will have adequate police presence from PSPD and our MPD 4D partners for the next 14 days. With more than 100 Recreation Centers, City Parks and Playgrounds spread throughout the city; DGS’s Protective Services Division is woefully understaffed to even begin making a dent in ensuring that these wonderful Public Facilities are safe for District residents and visitors to use and enjoy.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Retired Lead Officer Kevin Green earlier today. Lead Officer Green retired from PSPD in 2017 with more than 30 years of service to the DC and US Governments. Rest easy brother.
