Today, the Isadore Garsek Lodge of B'nai B'rith in Fort Worth, #Texas honored the Colleyville Police Department for its role in saving those taken hostage at Congregation Beth Israel earlier this year.

Police Chief Michael Miller, his assistant and the officers who were first to respond to the hostage situation at Congregation Beth Israel- Colleyville, TX were present.

Eight Lodge members, including President Alex Nason, provided Colleyville police officers with food to show gratitude for the brave first responders, including salads, fruit plates, sweets and a main dish for 25 people prepared by Sophia Nason.

During the visit, Lodge President Nason spoke about B'nai B'rith International's mission to support those in need and the Isadore Garsek Lodge's commitment to the local Forth Worth-area community. Thank you Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for signing two critical bills targeting anti-Jewish bias, one that strengthens Iowa's anti-BDS law and another that adopts International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition.

Other states would be wise to follow Iowa's lead in combating #antisemitism.

Reynolds signed the bills during a formal meeting with the Israeli Consul General to the Midwest, Yinam Cohen.

Madeleine Albright, First Woman to Serve as Secretary of State, Dies at 84

We mourn the passing of former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who opened the first ever conference on Holocaust-era assets at the State Department in 1998 that B'nai B'rith attended. She pledged to do "everything in our power to replace dark with light, injustice with fairness" for survivors.

May her memory be a blessing.

She rose to power and fame as a brilliant analyst of world affairs before serving as an aggressive advocate of President Bill Clinton’s policies.

Mireille Knoll survived the notorious roundup of Jews in Paris during the #Holocaust.

But #OTD in 2018, at 85, Knoll was horrifically murdered at her home in Paris simply for being Jewish.

We continue to honor her memory and stand with France in its fight against #antisemitism.

In the middle of war-torn #Ukraine, Israel's Shining Star field hospital is now open and providing urgent, top-quality medical care to all Ukrainians. 🇮🇱🇺🇦

As is the Israeli way, the Jewish state is the first nation to establish such a life-saving facility since Russia began its brutal and unjustified invasion.

We are immensely proud of the humanitarian aid #Israel has given to Ukraine, including Shining Star, and hope other nations do the same for a nation and a people in need.

For decades, LGBTQ seniors couldn't receive #SocialSecurity survivor benefits as they were never able to marry or weren't married long enough to qualify before the passing of their spouse.

Recent decisions by U.S. District Courts in Washington and Arizona – and by the Biden administration – are changing that, an important commitment to equality by the government.

As JCPOA talks continue in Vienna, our CEO Dan Mariaschin warns of the grave dangers this latest version of the Iran nuclear deal pose to the world.

These discussions could have been another opportunity to confront the Iranians on their support for international terrorism (including Israel) and horrific human rights record. But that ship seems to have sailed.

"The arguments for a renewed JCPOA are based on the belief that a bad deal is better than no deal...in other words...kicking a dangerous can down the road," writes Daniel Mariaschin of B'nai B'rith International.

Happy #InternationalWomensDay from JWI! Did you know that JWI is even older than International Women's Day? The UN officially recognized International Women's Day in 1975, while JWI first started 125 years ago in 1897 as Ruth Lodge No. 1, the Daughters of Judah, B'nai B'rith International's first auxiliary. Over the decades, JWI has grown and evolved, as have Jewish women, into a strong, independent, and influential force committed to the pursuit of tikkun olam (repairing the world). Today, as we mark #InternationalWomensDay, we are so grateful for how far JWI and all women have come in the past century, and know that we have so much further we can – and MUST – go. Today, we recognize that woman all across the globe are suffering and bearing the brunt of many intersecting forms of violence. Today, we see the millions of women and girls around the world who are at risk due to conflicts, war, and humanitarian crises. Today, we know that women are disproportionally subjected to stalking, harassment, cyber-harassment, trafficking, child marriage, and ge***al mutilation. 30% of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. Tomorrow, we hope to see a brighter future and will work tirelessly to advocate for legislation that makes this possible. Together, we have the power to build a safer, stronger future for women everywhere. What do you hope to see for women in next 125 years?

Anti-Semitism is unfortunately still a threat in our society. It was only a month ago that a synagogue was attacked in Texas. Standing up to anti-Semitism and recognizing those who have is more important than ever. That’s why I signed the petition to requesting Sweden use their Presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance to help get answers surrounding the disappearance of Raoul Wallenberg. Wallenberg is Canada's first honorary citizen and was a Swedish diplomat who literally put his life on the line during World War II to rescue about 100,000 Hungarian Jewish lives during the Holocaust. He used his position to issue special passports giving them diplomatic protection to save them from deportation to death camps at end of World War II. In 1945 Wallenberg was arrested by the Soviets and his fate remains unknown.

Statement Regarding Amnesty International UK Report to the UN This week Amnesty International UK released a report to the United Nations (UN) rejecting the legitimacy of Israel and made the grave accusation that the Jewish homeland has committed crimes against humanity. The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston condemns this biased and baseless report. Jewish Federations of North America along with The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the ADL - Anti-Defamation League, American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), AJC - American Jewish Committee, and B'nai B'rith International issued a statement. We, at the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, have joined with Federations across the country to sign a letter asking Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, to make clear that UN institutions should not be using their international platform to unfairly target Israel.
