#ProfilesinPeacebuilding: Matt Cone and Emily Philpott are former participants in our Peace Teachers Program, which helps educators and students bring practical peacebuilding into their classrooms and communities.

Gatwal Gatkuoth was around 11 years old when war in Sudan forced him to flee to Uganda as a refugee. Now, he works across the African continent to empower refugee populations through better access to resources and vocational training.

In 2017, Gatwal was among 25 youth peacebuilders who joined USIP for a dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 2020, he spoke at a United Nations Security Council meeting on conditions for refugees amid COVID-19.
