NHIT will forever be indebted to Healthcare Ready for their unwavering support to our efforts in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

They are the unsung heroes during our national disasters that literally help save lives!

After #HurricaneMaria, health clinics in #PuertoRico were in dire need of assistance. Federally Qualified Health Centers, often one of the first to help patients in crisis, were among those most in need, facing a lack of supplies, electricity, and the communications equipment to coordinate with one another and order urgent supplies.

That's when the National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved asked us to help find comms equipment for these centers. We got to work with our trusted partner, Sprint's Emergency Response Team. In just a few days, the Sprint team delivered donated radios, mobile devices, and satellite phones for dozens of clinics in the hardest-hit areas of rural Puerto Rico.

Because disaster response never ends, please SHARE this and donate today to #HelpHealthcareReady support communities in crisis. bit.ly/donatehcr #7days7stories

The National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved released a “good news” report. The report describes exciting opportunities to “jump start” use of health information technology (HIT) in communities of color (COC). The authors point to the explosion of mobile technology use in these communities as reason for optimism. Luis Belen, NHIT Collaborative's chief executive officer and report co-author, noted: "Research confirms that greater use of HIT among racial/ethnic minorities can help close health gaps and support higher quality care. We believe tools such as mobile health applications offer bright hope for consumers in our communities”.
