On 11/20, Armenia Tree Project Western Region Community Outreach Manager Anahit Gharibyan and Armenian Assembly of America Western Region Director Mihran Toumajan were pleased to be invited by the University of California, Santa Barbara () Armenian Student Association () to present an overview of student-oriented programming to over 30 ASA members.

Special gratitude is in order to UCSB ASA President Nayri Tagmazian for the warm welcome, to Armenian Assembly LA County Regional Committee member and Campus Liaison Delilah Shahbazian for facilitating the meeting, and to UCSB student, ASA member, and 2019 Armenian Assembly DC internship program alumnus Mihran Markarian for his direct involvement in this initiative.

Ms. Gharibyan's presentation highlighted the fact that the Armenia Tree Project (), currently celebrating its Silver Anniversary, has planted nearly 7 million trees to date, and looks forward to working with the government of the Republic of Armenia in 2020 to launch and fulfill the ambitious yet farsighted goal of planting 10 million new trees in Armenia beginning in 2020, with a global Armenian celebration of this undertaking occurring on 10/10/2020. Anahit welcomed UCSB ASA members to volunteer with ATP in Armenia during the Summer season.

Mr. Toumajan's presentation focused on the Armenian Assembly's flagship, 8-week summer internship programs in Washington, DC (commencing its 43rd year in 2020) and in Yerevan (starting its 21st year in the new year) respectively. Toumajan invited Terjenian-Thomas Assembly Internship Program alum Mihran Markarian to share his experiences working at an immigration-centered think tank and overall observations about the DC internship program.

Fillable online applications for both of the Assembly's summer internship programs are available at the following web link:

NAASR Gala Celebrates New Building and Its Mission - The Armenian Mirror-Spectator

Congratulations to TWO of the Armenian Assembly of America Summer Internship Program Alumni - Gugó Tadevosyan (DC class of 2018) and Lillian Avedian (Yerevan Class of 2018; DC class of 2019) who spoke at National Association for Armenian Studies and Research - NAASR's 65th Anniversary Gala in Boston, with almost five hundred guests in attendance.

NAASR ran an essay contest for undergraduates on the transformative power of education - the principle at the core of NAASR’s mission. Students wrote about professors or teachers who had a meaningful impact on their lives.

There were two first-place winners, who had to fly in specially to speak at the banquet: Lillian Avedian, a University of California Berkeley senior who at present is studying in Santiago, Chile, and Gurgen Tadevosyan, a senior at New York University (NYU) who flew in from Abu Dhabi.

Congratulations again!!!

Thank you to everyone who helped us with the expansion of the Turkish language website of the Armenian National Institute!

http://turkish.armenian-genocide.org/

Since its launch two years ago, the Armenian National Institute (ANI) Turkish language website has been continuously expanded with major additions made in the course of 2019, now augmented by the Armenian Genocide resolution adopted throughout the United States House of Representatives on October 29.

In the face of the continuing denial of the Armenian Genocide by Turkish state authorities, once again demonstrated by President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his latest visit to Washington, where, from a White House podium, he referred to the 1915 Armenian Genocide as “an incident that took place 104 years ago,” the ANI Turkish website strives to educate the Turkish-reading public about the facts, history, and recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

From Milena Davtyan, Armenian National Institute (ANI) Intern (class of 2017) and Armenian Assembly of America Terjenian-Thomas Summer Internship Program Coordinator (class of 2018):

"10.29.2019 will forever remain a significant day in my and my fellow Armenians’ hearts as the U.S. House of Representatives adopted The Armenian Genocide resolution. The justice has prevailed!

Many have worked persistently to spread awareness and acknowledgment of the horrific massacre that stole over a million innocent lives. However, I have never met, nor will I ever meet, anyone more dedicated to this cause than Dr. Rouben Adalian.

I will forever take pride in the fact that I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Adalian as his intern for the Armenian National Institute, which serves as the largest archive, containing every single fact and detail regarding the Armenian Genocide, coming from exclusively credible sources.

One of the first things that came to my mind as soon as I found out the resolution passed was that Dr. Adalian’s devotion and hard work has definitely had one of the biggest inputs into all of this. His entire lifetime worth of work serves as the number one source of information, proving the Ottoman Turkey’s crime. Thanks to Dr. Adalian’s work we will never allow anyone, any other nation, any political condition to deny the truth! I am eternally grateful to Dr. Adalian, on behalf of each and every Armenian, for creating the Armenian National Institute; our future generations will not forget who they are and where they are coming from either!"
