Ms Barbara Jones is a pillar in the Carver/Langston community and she has done so much to support her neighborhood. Ms. Jones needed her roof repaired and was unable to do it herself. So the community and community partners came together to raise money to make sure Ms. Jones was covered. Special shout out to The Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative, J and J Monitoring and ANC 5D for the partnership.

The Pandemic Has Hindered Many of the Best Ideas for Reducing Violence

ONSE Director, Del McFadden, spoke with The New York Times about how the Pandemic has impacted violence intervention work.

“This work is a pat on the shoulder, a touch on the hand, a handshake,” said Del McFadden, the director of the office of neighborhood safety and engagement for the District of Columbia. “All of those things are different now.”

#ReducingViolence #COVID19 #GunViolence

That may be one part of this year’s rise in violent crime.

Trying to stop violence in D.C. without police

Please check out this informative story created by the Washington Post about the work that our office does as well as our brave contractors of the Violence Intervention Initaitive.

D.C.’s violence interrupters build relationships in the city’s most vulnerable neighborhoods in an effort to defuse conflicts before they start. They are part of the city-funded Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, which works to address the root causes of poverty and violence.

Charlayne Hayling-Williams: Dismantling structural racism, disrupting DC mental health care

USA Today set out to find today's civil rights leaders and their search led them to the District's very own Dr. Charlayne Hayling-Williams!

ONSE is proud to partner with Dr. Hayling-Williams and Community Wellness Ventures to bring culturally-competent mental health care to Pathways participants and other District residents.

Our Mission

The Safer, Stronger DC Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) was created to address violence in the District while assisting families dealing with the grief and trauma caused by these occurrences. As part of Mayor Bowser’s FY2018 Budget, and in compliance with the Neighborhood Engagement Achieves Results (NEAR) Act (PDF), ONSE created to consolidate the work being done by the Safer, Stronger DC Community Partnerships Office (SSDCCP) and the Community Stabilization Program (CSP) under one mission.
