As we close out another year of successful advocacy and growth for the Black business community, the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC) appreciates your support in advancing and uplifting our mission as the preeminent voice of the nation’s more than 3.2 million Black-owned businesses. With the help of our vast network of chambers, partner organizations, supporters, and allies, we’ve been able to achieve significant gains for our community over the last year. Such support has materialized through a myriad of ways for our organization and the businesses we serve, including USBC’s participation as a partner with the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Community Navigator Pilot program, among many other opportunities.

Looking ahead into the new year, we remain hopeful and determined in our mission to sustain the growth and progress achieved in previous years. As we continue this journey of moving the Black business agenda forward in Washington, D.C., we invite you to remain involved with the USBC in our quest to provide committed, visionary leadership and advocacy in the realization of economic empowerment for African American Chambers of Commerce and business organizations.

Our 2023 mantra remains identical to previous years: In order for there to be a great America, there must be a great Black America; in order for there to be a great Black America, we need great Black businesses; and in order to have great Black businesses, we need great Black Chambers of Commerce and the impactful work we do to support the growth of Black enterprises.

General information

Five Pillars of Service: Advocacy - The USBC fights for legislation that promotes small business growth, particularly policies that address the challenges of Black business owners. We understand the importance of maintaining a bipartisan approach to advocacy, and hence, collaborate with policymakers from all political affiliations to advocate for policies that best serve the interest of the Black community. Access to Capital - Capital access remains the most important factor limiting the establishment, expansion and growth of Black-owned businesses. The USBC works with financial institutions, particularly Black-owned institutions, to create avenues by which Black businesses can gain greater access to credit, capital and other financial instruments. Chamber Development - The growth and development of Black chambers of commerce is a core focus of the U.S. Black Chamber. As such, we leverage our role as a national organization, provide technical assistance and leadership training to member chambers, assist with the establishment of new Black chambers, and facilitate the sharing of best practices and industry data among our members. To do this, we utilize a variety of mechanisms including, training, web-based tools, peer networking, coaching, and information products. Entrepreneur Training - The USBC is committed to helping Black business leaders achieve stellar performance and growth through entrepreneur and business management training. Hence, we deliver quality educational opportunities and professional development resources that help our members manage and grow successful businesses. Contracting - At the USBC, our goal is to level the playing field by helping members gain access to business opportunities in the private and public sectors. We accomplish this by educating members on contract opportunities, helping them increase their capacity to vie for large scale contracts, and offering resources and information that enhance Black owners’ ability to compete.

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year. Unfortunately, Covid-19 took a toll on a vast number of small businesses. Small businesses have rallied together to create Pink Friday, the Friday before Black Friday, to encourage shoppers to shop local before spending it all with big box retailers.

According to Forbes.com, "black-owned businesses were some of the hardest hit by Covid-19." Black-owned businesses have closed at double the rate of white-owned businesses due to the pandemic.

Toward the end of 2020, Google searches for "black-owned businesses" exploded. As a result, Google Small Business has partnered with the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. to celebrate and support Black-owned businesses with "Black-Owned Friday." It occurs on the same day as Black Friday; however, the goal is to make it a day to search, support, and shop at Black-owned businesses.
