As of July 1st, 2026, the European Union is abolishing the customs duty exemption that previously applied to parcels with a value of less than 150 euros. This measure aims to close a tax loophole massively exploited by e-commerce giants such as SHEIN, Temu, and AliExpress, whose millions of low-cost shipments flooded the market while avoiding import taxes. From now on, a temporary flat-rate tax of 3 euros is applied per imported item.

Motivated by a desire to strengthen digital sovereignty and eliminate strategic dependencies on technologies under US control, this decision comes amid growing mistrust among European governments regarding their technological dependence on the United States.

What an event organized by The Lafayette Company! On Friday evening, the FACC had the chance to be invited to an evening at Mount Vernon for the 250th anniversary of the United States. Between a private tour of the venue, a cocktail reception, and speeches reminding us how deep and historically rooted the ties between France and the United States are, the evening had everything it takes to be a great success!
Thank you to our member The Lafayette Company and everyone who made this moment possible. ✨
