When was the last time you really checked your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES)?

Your LES is a critical tool for financial readiness. A regular review helps you catch errors, understand your total compensation, and plan with confidence.

This guide breaks down the 6 key sections you need to know:
1. Entitlements: What you earn (Basic Pay, BAH, BAS).
2. Deductions: What's taken out (Taxes, SGLI, TSP).
3. Allotments: Money sent to other accounts.
4. Leave: Your balance of days off.
5. Tax Data: Your withholdings and year-to-date totals.
6. Why It Matters: Catching errors and planning for the future!

Leader Tip: Encourage your team to review their LES monthly and after every promotion, PCS, marriage, deployment, etc.

👇 Be honest, which section do YOU check first? Drop a number (1-6) in the comments and let's see what's most popular!

Myth vs. Reality: Are these assumptions hurting your unit's financial readiness?

As leaders, we sometimes fall back on conventional wisdom. But when it comes to military pay and financial health, assumptions can quietly undermine a team's readiness and well-being.

Have you or your team ever bought into any of these 7 common myths?
❌ 1. Financial stress only comes from bad decisions.
❌ 2. More years in service = more financial knowledge.
❌ 3. If they don’t ask for help, they already understand it.
❌ 4. Families only get financial info on an installation.
❌ 5. If they need to know something, they’ll just look it up.
❌ 6. Senior leaders already know all this.
❌ 7. Everyone has the exact same financial goals.

The Reality: Financial readiness requires proactive leadership, not assumptions. Waiting for a Service member to "just look it up," or assuming that silence means they understand, creates vulnerability. Let's get the facts and start the right conversations.

👇 Which of these 7 myths do you think is the most common in the military community? Drop a number (1-7) in the comments!

📢 Hit Share to send this to your unit page, spouse group, or fellow leaders to help bust these myths today.

Are you ready to L.E.A.D. your team toward financial confidence? 📈

True leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about knowing how to start the right conversations. When a Service member feels financially secure, it directly impacts their focus, their family's well-being, and their overall mission readiness.

Next time you conduct a check-in or counseling session, use this simple 4-step framework to guide the conversation:
👂 L - Listen First: Create trust by listening with intent. Let them do the talking first.
🔍 E - Explore Their Perspective: Ask open-ended questions to understand their unique situation and goals.
🚫 A - Avoid Assumptions: Every Service member's financial journey is different. Seek to understand, not assume.
📲 D - Direct to Resources: You don’t have to be a financial planner. Your job is simply to connect them with trusted resources, like their installation's Personal Financial Counselor (PFC) or official military support services.

Let's help our teams build the confidence they need for life's big moments.

👇 Which of these 4 steps do you think is the most critical for a leader to master?
Drop a L, E, A, or D in the comments to share your perspective!
