The countdown to is on! 🏅🇺🇸🇳🇱

We were thrilled to welcome Marc van den Tweel and Esther Acda Spierdijk from NOC*NSF to Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Los Angeles this week. With exactly 24 months to go, this working visit sets the stage for incredible transatlantic collaboration ahead of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The road to LA28 is about much more than medals. It’s about building bridges.

Right now, athletes are training on the West Coast, and early venue scouting is well underway to ensure our Olympic and Paralympic teams are fully prepared to perform at the highest level.

This visit also marked the launch of The Orange Alliance, a premier business initiative connecting the Dutch sports ecosystem with American partners. T

he Games are a massive economic catalyst, and Dutch organizations are ready to bring world-class innovation to the US, including:
🔹 Tech-driven performance tools for athletes
🔹 Advanced stadium logistics, hybrid grass, and crowd management
🔹 Data-driven health tech and well-being solutions
🔹 Frameworks to improve community sports access and inclusivity

Twelve years later, we will never forget the 298 innocent lives taken on Flight MH17. Our hearts go out to the families whose lives were changed forever. We stand together with our global partners in keeping their memory alive. 🇳🇱🕊️

Vandaag precies 12 jaar geleden verloren 298 onschuldige mensen het leven bij het neerhalen van vlucht MH17. Voor altijd is 17 juli 2014 een zwarte bladzijde in de Nederlandse geschiedenis.

In Vijfhuizen bij het Nationaal Monument worden elk jaar op deze dag de slachtoffers herdacht. Alle 298 namen worden genoemd. Om zo de herinnering aan elk van hen levend te houden.

Om stil te staan bij het gemis en verdriet. Zodat zij in gedachten voortleven.

Ik wens de nabestaanden op deze moeilijke dag veel sterkte en troost toe.

Happy birthday, USA! 🇺🇸 🎉

Slagroomtaart, or Dutch cream cake, is a traditional birthday cake we eat at birthday parties. The cake is sweet, fresh, and fruity.

To make the celebration ‘’gezellig’’ (sociable/pleasant), we gather our loved ones, enjoy a slice of cake, and sit in a big circle. Traditional cakes in the Netherlands also include apple pie, and vlaai, which is more known in southern parts.

Happy 250th Independence Day to our friends in the United States! 🇺🇸✨

Today, as America celebrates , we are reflecting on the incredible historic ties that connect our two nations. On the night of July 4, 1776, when printer John Dunlap was rushing to print the first copies of the Declaration of Independence, he reached for high-quality, durable Dutch paper.

According to scholarly research by the Harvard Declaration Resources Project , watermarks visible on the surviving Dunlap Broadsides prove they were pressed onto paper imported from the renowned mills of Zaandam and Dutch papermakers like D. & C. Blauw and L.V. Gerrevinck.

Our history has been intertwined from the literal paper your independence was announced on, to being the first to give a foreign salute to the U.S. flag later that same year.

Parallel celebrations spanned the Atlantic today! 🇳🇱🇺🇸

We teamed up with the U.S. Embassy The Hague to honor two monumental milestones in our shared history: the transatlantic celebration of and the legacy of the First Salute.

📍 In the Netherlands: Rob Jetten and US Ambassador Joe Popolo spoke on the enduring, centuries-old partnership between our nations.

📍In Washington, D.C.: At the Ambassador’s Residence, we unveiled a powerful new mural that frames this famous history through a more complete lens.

The History Behind the Salute: On November 16, 1776, Fort Oranje on St. Eustatius (Statia) made history. The fort answered the guns of the American brig Andrew Doria as she sailed into port to deliver a copy of the Declaration of Independence and secure vital revolution supplies. This moment marked the first time a foreign power recognized the sovereign flag of the United States.

Statia held strategic importance at the time. Great Britain focused so heavily on blocking this Caribbean trading hub that French forces sailed into the Chesapeake Bay unresisted, leading to the British surrender at Yorktown.

A Complete Historical Framework: Commissioned by American and Statia resident Tom Morgan and painted by New York artist Cynthia Marsh, this new mural expands the historical lens of that 1776 harbor scene. It explicitly honors the perspective of the enslaved people who made up half the island's population and played a vital role in its history.

As Ambassador Birgitta Tazelaar shared during the event: "History has beautiful things, but it also has bad things. And it’s important to understand both sides of that history."

Statia Government Commissioner Reuben Merkman also praised the tribute, noting that the mural captures the true spirit, dignity, and depth of Statia's salute. The painting will be delivered to the island for the 250th anniversary of the First Salute in November.

Today is , Surinamese for “the chain is broken,” the day on which we commemorate the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Dutch Caribbean and reflect on our past while looking to the future.

The National Slavery Monument in Amsterdam, designed by Surinamese artist Erwin de Vries, powerfully captures this journey. Its bronze figures trace the painful path from historical oppression to the ongoing pursuit of human freedom and equality.

Our commitment to facing this history is a process with a comma, not a full stop. Through a €200M fund, we are working actively across the Kingdom and with Suriname to raise public awareness, promote equal opportunities, and combat discrimination. 🇳🇱

Reflecting on her firsthand experiences from attending several games, Ambassador Tazelaar shared:"Sports diplomacy extends far beyond the scoreboard. From the Royal Couple's celebration with OnsOranje and Federashon Futbòl Kòrsou, to the vibrant blue and orange fan walks, to the profound solidarity of the players, we showed the world our true heart."
