Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is a locally funded initiative sponsored by the Department of Employment Services (DOES) that provides District youth ages 14 to 21 with enriching and constructive summer work experiences through subsidized placements in the private and government sectors.

Recently, we partnered up with local Starbucks in the District to host a Youth Hiring Fair. Close to 200 Eventbrite invitations were accepted for youth ages 22 to 24, with 12 different Starbucks stores set to hire almost 30 new hires. Preliminary numbers show that 20 positions from baristas and/managers were filled. Due to the success of the hiring event, Starbucks has agreed to partner with the Office of Youth Programs in the near future for another hiring event.

Serve DC - The Mayor's Office on Volunteerism teaching our Pathways for Young Adults (PYAP) participants how to properly give CPR with rhythm.
