"When America shows up, we win – through education, culture, sports, and our shared history." – Assistant Secretary Cate Dillon 🇺🇸🇭🇷🇸🇮

America is leading, and winning, around the world. On her first trip as Assistant Secretary, Cate Dillon brought American excellence to Croatia and Slovenia, putting America first through education, culture, sports, and shared history — strengthening American leadership, expanding U.S. influence, and creating opportunities for Americans.

🇭🇷 Croatia: Unveiled the murals, a tribute to American creativity leading the world; met with the leadership of top Croatian football club Hajduk Split to open doors for American athletes and businesses through ; and honored the sacrifice of American WWII servicemembers on Vis Island.

Every Cultural Property Agreement (CPA) is an investment in American interests, helping protect America's economy by securing the U.S. marketplace. 🇺🇸

Here’s why this matters:

When markets operate fairly and lawfully, American businesses are better positioned to compete, consumers have greater confidence, and the U.S. economy is stronger.

CPAs help make that possible by combating the illegal trafficking of archaeological and cultural property, keeping illicit goods out of U.S. markets, supporting lawful trade, and creating a fairer environment for American businesses.

Protecting the U.S. marketplace, supporting American businesses, and strengthening our nation's security—that's why Cultural Property Agreements matter to America.

Every exchange ignites lasting impact – long after Americans return home. 🇺🇸

Career Connections DC: “Showcasing American Excellence” is one way the U.S. Department of State propels the positive momentum of U.S. exchanges forward for the American people, showing that exchange don’t end when Americans return home – they are just getting started.

This year, over 170 U.S. citizen gathered at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center to exchange ideas, expand their professional networks, and identify concrete ways to apply what they learned abroad to their work here at home. Workshop sessions covered commercial diplomacy, emerging technology, and national security, mobilizing alumni as force multipliers in strengthening U.S. competitiveness in critical technology and commercial sectors.

By connecting alumni across sectors, this professional development seminar serves as a springboard for Americans to apply their exchange experiences to lead in their professions, drive economic growth, serve their communities, and shape our nation's future. Career Connections is a reminder that exchange isn’t just about where Americans go – it’s about what they bring home.
