Under President Joe Biden, U.S. Small Business Administration has taken steps to make #PPP more useful to farmers, ranchers, and sole proprietors in recent months, so making the changes retroactive is a matter of basic fairness.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen

Today, Senator Shaheen kicked-off Veterans Small Business Week with a visit to SilverCloud, a veteran-owned business that develops customer service software in downtown Portsmouth.

“Our veterans should be recognized, not only for their selfless service protecting our country, but for the many ways they are strengthening our economy. SilverCloud is a great example of a veteran-owned business that’s selling an in-demand product and creating good jobs here in New Hampshire. To achieve more success stories like SilverCloud, I’ll continue to lead efforts in Congress to provide support for veteran entrepreneurs who want to start up or expand their own small businesses.” –JS

Tester wants tax cuts for Montana breweries

Senator Jon Tester supports #smallbiz by supporting small breweries.

"The Small BREW Act of 2015, introduced by Senator Ben Cardin, would reduce the federal excise tax on every one of America’s small craft brewers. Under current federal law, brewers producing fewer than 2 million barrels annually pay $7 per barrel in federal excise taxes on the first 60,000 barrels they brew, and $18 per barrel on every additional barrel (one barrel = 31 gallons). Under the Small BREW Act, the rate would be $3.50 per barrel on the first 60,000 barrels. For production between 60,001 and 2 million barrels, the rate would be $16.00 per barrel. Then, the rate would be $18.00 per barrel. Breweries with annual production of 6 million or fewer barrels would qualify for these new tax rates."

Tester toured Triple Dog Brewing Company in Havre and announced he will sponsor the Small BREW Act, the similar measure he sponsored last Congress.

Cardin: Patent Reform Intrinsically Linked to the Success of Small Businesses

At a #SmallBiz hearing entitled, “Patent Reform: Protecting Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” I heard from #Maryland small business owners, industry experts and analysts about the need to reform our patent system.

Senators C***s, Merkley introduce bill to expand ACA small business tax credit

“The Affordable Care Act is already doing a lot of good for a lot of Americans, but where we can make it work better, we should,” Senator C***s said. “I’ve spoken with small business owners in #Delaware who want to offer their employees health insurance, but are struggling to afford it. The Affordable Care Act created a small business tax credit to help these businesses, but unfortunately too many are either ineligible or discouraged by its complex requirements. Congress should listen to these concerns, acknowledge that these small business owners are voluntarily trying to do right by their workers, and act to strengthen the Affordable Care Act. This bill would make a big difference for our small businesses and the millions of people employed by them.”

Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) on his Craft Beer Industry Legislation

Small brewers have been anchors of local communities and America’s economy since the start of our history. In addition to making high-quality beers, #Maryland craft brewers create jobs and reinvest their profits back into their local economies.

That's why I've introduced a bipartisan jobs bill to help small brewers compete with bigger companies and create more well playing jobs in the process. Best of all, small breweries help spark growth in other regional small businesses.

The #SmallBREW Act of 2015 would reduce the federal excise tax on every one of America’s small craft brewers. Cheers to good beer and great jobs!

We had a productive conversation about what the federal government can do to help small businesses gain access to credit and contracts.
