Nonprofits have a responsibility to advocate for policies and resources that benefit their communities. However, they need to understand that there are some legal limits on nonprofit activities.
Learn the ropes at this two-part training workshop hosted by 501 Commons and co-sponsored by Alliance for Justice's Bolder Advocacy, Children's Alliance, Washington Nonprofits, Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS), Youth Development Executives of King County, and Win/Win Network.
The first part is “Advocacy and Lobbying 101: Legal Tips for 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Advocates” on Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. (PST) via Zoom. Presenter Quyen Tu (the Southern California Counsel for AFJ’s program) will teach you the definition of and the legal limitations that face when advising elected officials on public issues.

There's a lot going on in the world right now and as a nonprofit, you may be asking yourself what you can do about it. Tax exempt organizations CAN stand up for the things they believe in but there is a line that we should all be aware of.
We found this handy cheat sheet from Bolder Advocacy and thought it was pretty helpful so we're sharing it with you!

So thrilled to be working with Sue Zachman, Founding Partner at The Law Offices of Susan J. Zachman, PLLC, “Supporting the democracy innovation ecosystem”, and Bolder Advocacy, an initiative from Alliance for Justice to give nonprofits confidence in their public policy work.
Recently launched: “the ‘Practical Guidance – What Nonprofits Need to Know About Lobbying’ series designed to help smaller grassroots advocacy organizations understand how their state and local advocacy work intersects with state lobbyist registration and reporting regulations.” —verbiage from Sue's LinkedIn post:

We were intentional about designing and generating pieces that are easily digested, incorporating charts, icons, and accent typography. We collaborated to develop a base document that the client could update, edit, and alter as needed in-house.
