Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy Discover Dumbarton Oaks Park, a pastoral oasis in the middle of our Nation's Capital. The Conservancy's mission is to restore, promote, and maintain Dumbarton Oaks Park in partnership with the National Park Service.

A 27-acre pastoral oasis in the middle of Georgetown, Dumbarton Oaks Park is the woodland and meadow portion of Mildred and Robert Wood Bliss’ original 53-acre Dumbarton Oaks estate. One of the finest garden designs in American landscape history, it is the masterpiece of Beatrix Farrand, America’s first successful female landscape architect. In 1940, the Blisses donated the naturalistic portion of the garden to the American people as a public park, now overseen by the National Park Service as Dumbarton Oaks Park. Today the Park is at an environmental tipping point. Invasive plants have overrun the woods and meadows, stonework crumbles, and water runoff into the valley erodes the hillsides, undermines the grand old trees, silts up the stream and ponds, and undercuts the decorative waterfalls. Founded in 2010, Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy, in partnership with the National Park Service, is tackling these significant and costly challenges to restore and preserve the Park for current and future generations.

Mission: The mission of the Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy is to restore, promote and maintain Dumbarton Oaks Park in partnership with the National Park Service.

Dumbarton Oaks Park is a 27-acre wild garden designed by Beatrix Farrand. She was a pioneering figure in the field of landscape architecture who helped shape the American landscape. The Park was gifted to the people of the United States and then opened to the public in 1941. This landscape is at-risk and in serious environmental decline. Please support the Conservancy’s mission to restore, promote, and maintain Dumbarton Oaks Park now and for future generations. Link to GIVE in our Bio.

Today we celebrate International Youth Day with a reminder that it's never too early to explore the great outdoors!

Over the past two years, in our Leave No Child Inside “Blossoms and Bloomers” program, we have hosted spring and fall events to inspire our future land stewards and land conservationists. In collaboration with local playgroups and preschools 175 children from infancy to three years, and their caretakers, have explored the park while learning about the wild shapes, colors, trees, sounds, and textures.

DM us if you are interested in future program opportunities.

Since 2014, The Conservancy has partnered with @laycdc and @mcconservationcorps to facilitate year round landscape preservation learning experiences for youth in Dumbarton Oaks Park. The restoration of key areas throughout the park have only been made possible in part thanks to the many youth who volunteer.

Check out our IG Stories throughout the week as we highlight the work accomplished by @mcconservationcorps as we celebrate Latino Conservation Week!
