California’s latest legislation is on the books after Gov. Newsom signed a bill eliminating the sunset for local agencies’ design-build authority.

Senate Bill 935 gets rid of a 2031 on design-build for public works projects exceeding $1,000,000.

The U.S. economy lost 23,000 jobs in July rather than adding the nearly 80,000 projected by some economists. Still, saw gains, adding nearly 20,000 jobs for the month.

Nonresidential specialty trade contractors accounted for most of the increase, adding 15,400 jobs during the month. The overall national unemployment rate edged down from 4.2% to 4.1%, attributed in large part to more people leaving the workforce.

The second day of DBIA’s Federal Design-Build Symposium is in full swing, starting with a session on how to apply Progressive Design-Build successfully with an assist from a new report from the ACEC Research Institute.

Presenters included AECOM Vice president of Navy Programs Michael Blount, Chief Contracting Officer at the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation Dave Triplett, Div. Vice President of Design Management at Whiting-Turner Dana Pomeroy and Chair of Federal Government Contracts and Procurement Practice Department Fox Rothschild LLPReggie Jones.
