Director Pierre, DHS team members, and provider staff recently hosted Councilmember Matt Frumin for a tour of the District’s Short-Term Family Housing overflow sites. These sites provide additional capacity when needed to support families experiencing homelessness, always with the goal of helping families access the services they need to get back on their feet and transition to stable housing as quickly as possible.

During the tour, the Councilmember and our team discussed a range of topics—from onsite facilities and maintenance to how we’re connecting families to employment opportunities and other services.

A big thank you to our amazing Short-Term Family Housing providers: NCCF , Community of Hope , Friendship Place , and CORE DC. We couldn’t do this critical work without your partnership!

We look forward to continuing our collaborative work with Councilmember Frumin and his team to ensure District families are supported in times need.

This year’s TANF and SNAP Employment & Training Capacity Building Symposium brought together our dedicated providers, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen employment and training outcomes for District residents.

We focused on collaboration, shared learning, and alignment across programs to better support TANF and SNAP participants on their journey toward meaningful, sustainable employment. From deep discussions to actionable strategies, the partnerships showcased remind us that measurable outcomes happen when we work together. 

Thank you to all our DHS staff, community partners, and providers, including the Workforce Investment Council and the DC Department of Employment Services for your continued commitment to this work.

Director Pierre and DHS team members visited with A Wider Circle yesterday to learn how it’s Ward 8 Hub is supporting District residents in Washington Highlands and throughout the city.

From support with essentials like furniture and clothing to health and wellness programs to professional development and career counseling, A Wider Circle is working to advance equity in the DMV and create a region where children and adults are able to live safe, stable, and comfortable lives and have the opportunity to succeed.

DHS values its partnership with A Wider Circle and looks forward to exploring additional ways we can support District residents together.
