Mayor Bowser Announces Fund to Increase Food Access and Community Ownership

The Nourish DC Fund will provide grants, loans, and technical assistance to local food businesses in underserved communities, with a preference for businesses owned by residents of these communities.

“This is a marvelous example of what can happen when the community and the government collaborate to solve a longstanding problem,” said Beverley Wheeler, Co-Chair of the FPC’s Food Access & Equity Working Group and Executive Director of DC Hunger Solutions.

The DC Food Policy Council has cancelled the August 1st DC Food Policy Council meeting. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, October 3rd, and we look forward to seeing you there! If you weren't able to join us in June, you might notice a few changes to the format for future meetings. We are now holding all working group meetings on the same night as the larger DC Food Council meeting. Working group meetings are held from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, with the full meeting from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. We hope this change makes it more feasible for you to participate in both the working group meetings and the larger meeting. We also have a new working group -- Health and Nutrition Education and Food System Education -- chaired by Tambra Raye Stevenson.
Greetings. My June article for the InTowner newspaper will focus on the challenge of Farmers' Markets to navigate the maze of DC govt regulations and implementation. Some, have even proposed an Ambassador program to assist. Any contributions to my article? Larry Ray, [email protected]
